Default Ideas for my pirate costume?

Me and my husband are wanting to be pirates this halloween(How original, yes I know but I LOVE Pirates!) My question is about our costumes, I want them to be home made and I have a few ideas but would really appreciate some more if anyone has any. I thought about a costume similar to Elizabeth Swan's pirate costume form the third POTC. But, I am not sure so please pour on the ideas. Thank- You!!!

I've seen so many pirates in ragged clothes, I like the idea of a well dressed pirate. Just one humble opinion.

I know I sound like the thrift store pied piper around here but you can really find
a lot of great stuff there for both of you. I don't have any great pics of our current
incarnation of our pirate costumes as they aren't done yet. but here's a pic from
last year.

My wife's jacket is from an old band uniform that I found. My coat is an East
German naval officers overcoat that a dear friend added the cuffs and collar to.
Now we are REALLY into pirates so I've probably put $100 into my hat alone, but
you gan get a great look lots cheaper. My wife has gotten into it a lot more too.
I think the $200 gem green corset may have helped. When we go to festivals
we take extra clothes for our friends to use to get in the spirit. Hippie skirts and
puffy shirts go a long way when you add a sash or two. I've made some really
nice tricorn hats out of wide-brim seagrass or straw sun hats as well. Attention
to detail makes the biggest difference when it comes to looking piratey as opposed
to "cartoon" piratey. "Real" fabrics like silk, wool and cotton look SO much
better than polyester it's unbelievable the difference it makes. I can't tell
you how many kids have asked us if we are real pirates, and that's on
Halloween night!
If you don't mind scrounging a bit awesome costumes are a short step away!
