Simplicity sells patterns called "Sewing for Dummies", they have all kinds of tips for beginners. They're available at any place that sells patterns, Joanns, Hancocks, Walmart, etc. She might want to sign up for a beginner class, most Hancocks have them and they're relatively inexpensive. Sewing is a life-skill, she'll be glad she learned. Once she gets started, she can pm me, I'll help, I enjoy sharing a something that was given to me.

The easiest patterns are from McCall's. They are the easiest to read and understand. Kwik Sew has very easy patterns too.
I have been sewing for over 30 years and sometimes have a problem, but with practice, that is the only way to perfect your talent. Good luck!

Tell her not to get overwhelmed. We all started out the same way... making mistakes. She can't make a mistake we haven't already made and she can't make a mistake that can't be fixed. Have fun with it and keep your seam ripper handy.

LOL...yes keep the seam ripper close by....I still do after 30-some years!!
I like McCalls patterns myself....I started maing stuffed animals for the kids I babysat for, good practice and hard to mess up...and then started on curtains for my mom. Curtains are real easy too...then clothing...
Now I make my own patterns or combine elements of 2 or 3...just takes practice. Classes would be helpful to get started if there are any offered near you. Our county extension office offers lots of different things over the summer...The air so teems with many a ghostly shape, no way appears whereby I may escape--
