You could make it, just find a toy mallet (dollar store?) or a real one. Spray a little Great Stuff on the mallet end, let it dry and paint with spray or acrylic paint to look like blood and guts. Red, black and brown work good. If you use a real mallet, just beat the handle up with a piece of chain with a couple bolts in it, or a knife, hammer, etc. and maybe a little dark stain. It will have the old look that you want.

I think if you make it yourself it will feel more like "yours". You can craft it to suit your needs. Get a good mallet from a tool company and go to town on it like others have suggested, get some meat from the grocery store and beat the hell out of it too, it actually might help you get more in to the character of Leatherface if you do it this way too.

If you have no luck at a hardware store, check anywhere that sells kitchen supplies.
