Default Materials?

I might not get it done until next year, but I was thinking of making a gory disembodied eyeball. I have a huge inflatable eyeball that could be made into a mask if cut up and glued over a frame, but what to make the body with? I'd want it to look like a mess of red veins and tentacles, so I was thinking of using some sort of foam or resin over a shirt and pants.

I've never undertaken such a project...my usual costumes are basically jokes (a cardboard zombie, Inky the ghost from pac-man, and much worse).

Here's my suggestion, Scythemantis...
Have you ever seen the movie/musical ALL THAT JAZZ with Roy Schieder and Ben Vereen? Well, that last musical number is depicting his death. The women are dressed in these spandex costumes with veins runing up and down their whole bodies. From what I remember, it wouldn't be hard at all to duplicate it. Gluing blue and red fat fuzzy thread that my children used in preschool (can't think of the scientific name)on a costume would be all that is needed. Check out the movie and I believe you've got your answer as to your costume. Let me know!
