One thing I've found over the years is that once a costume reaches a certain level of complexity, it becomes far more difficult to just make, put on, and wear comfortably all night long. So unless it's something really easy, like the time I was George Carlin a few years ago (I'm a grey-bearded guy anyway, so I realy just needed tan s;acks and balck sweatshirt) I find it pays off to spend my last pre-holiday day off lounging around at home trouble-shooting for any weak spots in the costume or issues it creates with moving, talking, drinking, seeing, etc. The year that I was Montgomery Burns, for example, I did not rehearse, so my nose ended up falling off very early.
So, that's why I'm sitting around the apt tonight with a big glob of wax crammed into each back corner of my mouth, seeing how long this stretched-out face and I can stand each other.
Anybody else testing the bugs out of their suit?

I try every year to have dress rehearsal for my costume. If it involves tricky makeup, I'll try that part several times to get it just right. I always get special contact lenses to wear, and since I don't wear them normally, I practice those a few times as well (mostly just to remember how to put them in). I'm going as a jellyfish this year so I plan on wearing my "bell" around most of tomorrow night!

hello Cletus!! yes!! Always better to plan ahead and, as you said, depends a lot on the costume. Since mine always include liquid latex, I always run a little test before the big night; you have to save specially with stuff you know you'll eventually run out of (specially liquid latex and makeup). But hey, it's halloween and anything goes!! Cheers!!

I have worn my costume a couple of times and have made a change and a back up plan based on how things looked and what looked like it could fail.

I always test makeup, for quality and how it looks after long wear, and I've broken in shoes so I wouldn't kill my feet Halloween night.
There's something wrong with me chemically, something wrong with me inherently.

I do test runs as well, especially this year as I'm trying to get the make up down to 1/2 an hour from 1 hour
So far it's been successful, except the last time I made the scars (smile) too long.
Will take my time on Saturday before heading out to the club.

Yes! I always make my own costumes, and it would be too hard not to try everything on and see how it looks when everything is put together! Last year, I was a demented rag doll and needed white makeup over my face and body. I bought 2 different kinds of white make up. I tried one out but it was extremely oily, felt too heavy, and my yarn hair kept sticking too it! So glad I tried it out first because I was so uncomfortable. The other make up was a little dry and stung a little at first (prolly wasn't good) but ended up lasting longer and feeling much more comfy!

My costume this year is recycled pieces so I know how each individual component fits but I probably should try the whole thing together to make sure there are no problems. Thanks for the idea, Cletus!
