Hey, I joined this forum to get some inspiration for my costume. I want it to be homemade, and not more than $20. I have a black dress and the same one in red from Halloween a few years ago. I was thinking of wearing the black dress, some boots i own, and buying a rubber snake. I think it would look cool, but I'm not sure what I would call myself. Or maybe I could wear the red dress, some devil horns, and be a devil carrying a snake. What do you think of that, or do you have any other ideas? Also I really want an excuse to dye my hair red for Halloween, but I can't think of any costume ideas that would require red hair. Any ideas? All help is appreciated, thanks.
Btw I'm a 17 year old girl, so I want something pretty, but also scary.

Hey Unicorns! Welcome to the boards!
The folks here are awesome.
Are you tied to the snake? (No not literally) Can you get a rubber snake like what you want for under $20?
I'm partial to devil ladies myself (married to one! :P) so I'd vote for the red. With the black dress, maybe you could add a top hat and some fake white cuffs and go as a magician with a snake?
The only specific thing I can think of with a red dress and red hair is Jessica Rabbit, which isn't scary and wouldn't work for everyone. (Depends on the dress too!)
I'm sure the ladies here will have better ideas. But I wanted to say "hi!"

You know, with the snake draped around your neck while wearing the black, some wild eye makeup and a bunch of tiny rubber snakes wired into a wig, you could do a great gorgon, even Medusa herself.
Or you could get some Ben Nye Black Creme makeup and Neutral setting powder, paint your face, neck, ears, etc., completely black, wear black gloves, leave the snake behind and go as Nox, Goddess of Night. You could even put small skin crystals on your face and neck for stars.
Wear a moon pendant and call it done.

Cleopatra! Or if you want to lean towards the scary side, be a dead Cleopatra, with some zombie-like makeup, and some vampire-style bites to represent the asp biting her. Use the black dress, maybe with a gold belt or something, and find a cheap straight black wig (unless you have hair that you can style appropriately), maybe some cheap gold jewelry, and you're set.

You could do the devil or a different type of cat that you could work with red hair. You could get some cheap cat accessories for under 20 dollars- some cat ideas are leopard, cheetah, etc. You could also do a vampire with red hair. It would work with either color dress. Just get some vampire teeth and maybe some other inexpensive vampire accessories to add to the dress.
