My first thought when i saw your dress was Carrie. The whole prom queen thing. Or you could always die it black and go the witch route.........

you could be a fairy, i would add lace to the straps, im also plus sized, and i love sleeveless thins, but my arms are well embarassing. lace does wonders. IF you want something scary you could be a dead prom queen, car crash vicitm, zombie movie star. We had a themed party one year where everyone had to come as somone famous....zombiefied, it was great!
You could dye it red/bue/ black?? ad an apron, striped stocking, and wear pig tails. youtube has CRAZY ragdoll scry makeup tutorials!! ive ALWAY wanted to try, but havent!

If you are a fan of silent hill you could go as one of those crazy dead nurses. I did it once it was pretty cool. You could get some white material and add shredded sleeves. Cut then pull on the strings or wash it. If you plan on cutting it shorter (depends on your comfortability) you could use some of that. Also shred the bottom as well. Then take a Black tea and make yourself a medium strong bowl. Let it cool. Take newspaper without colored pictures and crinkle it up and dip it in the tea, then dap the out fit. It gives it a real dirty effect. Between the black/grey of the newspaper and the brown tints from tea it should help. Let it completely dry. You could then take the spray blood and dash a little bit on and let dry. Make a nurse's hat and you can do the exact same effect to it. The mask is where the hard part is. I'll give you more description on that if you want to do this outfit.

I would agree with the Carrie or zombie suggestions. If you shortened it a little you could be Baby from Dirty Dancing. If you added some chiffon sleeves and 1000 pounds of glitter (and some red hair and a crown) you could be Glinda The Good Witch. You could also shorten it, throw a crinoline under it, add a cardigan and a neck scarf and you're a 50's girl - you could even get an iron on record or poodle to put on the skirt.

I think a zombified Miss Sylvania would be awesome. Gil Elvgren did a lot of paintings of pin ups in evening gowns. You could check local costume shops for vintage crinolin, hot gule some big fancy flowers on the dress, and make a little sash that says 'Miss Sylvania' or a fun take 'Miss Transylvania'. You get an excuse to get all glamed up and all zombified at the same time.
Don't forget low heels with one of the heels broken off for a creepy hobble.
VividMakeup on youtube has some tutorials on 50s hair, and makeup, and petrilude on youtube has some amazing zombie tutorials, or halloween tutorials.

Go for a zombie or prom queen gone mad, or Carrie. Or maybe a model gone serial killer? Or a prom queen gone serial killer?
Distressing a dress is SO much fun, just don't be scared when you're doing it. If you want to shred it up a bit, take a very sharp serrated knife and have at it. Serrated knives give you very uneven cuts, and make it easier to "catch" on the dress and pull out threads. I recommend either having someone else do it WHILE the dress is on you - this way you the cuts will be exactly where you want them and there won't be any guessing.
It would be cool if you could find a netted slip to go under the dress, and then cut up the skirt of both the dress and the slip to give you some different textures. If you want to go for a blood splattered look, get a bottle of fake blood and have a friend either use a knife or a small spoon or some similar object to dip it in the blood and literally splatter you with it from a few feet away - have them throw some gloves on and cover their hands in it to get the dragged hand print look across your body or the dress.
You should layer your fishnets for fun too - get a solid pair of tights and then a pair of fishnets (if you're going for a really distressed look all over) and first put on the solid tights and cut them up to your desired look (with runs, lines, big holes, little holes, whole chunks missing) and then put the fishnets on over it and cut up the fishnets, too.
Hope this helps get the ball rolling on some ideas! :-)
