What up, horror freaks! Although there is a forum for Horror, thought I'd kick off a smaller group for discussion and whatnot!
I LOVE horror flicks, books, mags.. I love it all. Does anyone like Japanese horror?
You know, of all the subgenres that is the one that I am the least familiar. What are some of your favs?
Oh man.. I have a collection growing non-stop. Some of my favorites are Versus, Dark Water, and Ichi the Killer. There are so many titles though... Suicide Circle, Battle Royale (not REALLY horror, but involves lots of killing), Junk, Audition, Visitor Q (this one is pretty sick and twisted.. no.. make that VERY) the list goes on and on. I can list them all for you one day. I am really looking to see The Machine Girl though. It is relatively new as far as I know and it looks crazy!
Oh yeah! The Japanese orginal movies Pulse and The Eye were better than the new American ones in my opinion. I feel that Ring was better (scarier really) as an American re-make and Juon, The Grudge was better as a Japanese movie. Dark Water was just disapointing as a re-make. Not scary at all. And that sucks because Dark Water is one of the creepiest movies I have seen.
I was going to say I have seen Ichi, and Juon, but otherwise, not too many. Battle Royale - I read the manga which was awesome but have yet to see the film.
I enjoy Japanese horror too. But I'm only slowly building up my DVD collection of them. it seems TV showings of them have quietened down for the moment as well. Has anyone seen 'The Doll Master'? I was totally mesmerized by this one. Visitor Q is a strange one, isn't it!? I haven't seen Suicide Circle or Dark Water yet. And I'm yet to buy The Eye
The Machine Girl just came out on DVD! So excited! There is a whole spread on it in this month's Rue Morgue Magazine. I am going to see where I can get my hands on it tomorrow and check it out! It looks insanely kickass!
Darkwater, as I mentioned previously, is one of the creepiest Japanese movies I have ever seen. Pulse is pretty freaky as well. Not Japanese but.. I just saw the Orphanage (El Orphanato) the other night. We bought it on Blu-ray. That movie is very very creepy. I highly recommend it if you guys haven't seen it before.
Just got a new horror flick in the mail. It's called 'Inside'. It's a French film with English subtitles. It is very gory, and pretty freaky.... until this one scene. It just doesn't fit. But otherwise it was enjoyable and I believe it can be found online pretty easily. I got mine for free from Rue Morgue. lol I didn't even know they were sending it to me. They just did.
