When you begin building your ground breakers, what is your inspiration? Do you build with a specific design in mind or let it take shape as you go along?
When I start out I may have a basic idea in mind as far as it's pose. That's when I think about the shape; which way is the head going to lean, twist in the shoulders and rib cage, that sort of thing. Once the substructure is done and I start with the mache, as you said, it kinda takes shape as I go along. Inspiration is easy, I just look at dept1031's albums........... LOL Cool question Curl, looking forward to hearing others thoughts on this!
I look at my groundbreakers like watercolor painting... I can get a basic idea, but I'm totally open to what happens as they progress. All I look to do is get a basic framework for the pose -- leaning, twist of the head, what are the arms doing -- then it just takes shape. I'm all for the "happy accidents" that give the project a unique look!
I let the groundbreak lead me which way to go on the design.
