after talking to spookilicious i think we need a thread just for garden art etc... what do you think??? we can post about great finds and cool places to shop..as i mentioned to spook ,try thrift shops for statues and such, the prices are much better than the garden centers, you won't find everything you are looking for but the search is half the fun!!! Home goods is also another great place for garden items.. here in northern virginia we have a town called Lucketts. it is such a cool place to visit either for garden stuff or you can also find great stuff for your haunt, such as old doors, lighting fixtures, fences etc.. if you are ever in nova ( northern virginia ) try to visit lucketts...
After hearing about Lucketts from you last night I went on line and not only found it but found a great bed and breakfast to stay at near there. The Norris House, ever hear of it. Well I told hubby all about it and hopefully will make a trip out there during the spring or summer. Oh I cant wait. I love staying at bed and breakfast and looking for great garden finds, We will have to drive of course because I will want to take the Expedition should I find a great URN! I agree about the thrift stores as stated in the other thread I found a great $200 garden statue solid cement for $50. Whoo Hoo
well spook, i have been very busy trying to get the xmas lights down. it keeps snowing, and the wind and temps are unbearable.. any who.. the norris house is beautiful. i have never met anyone who stayed there that did not enjoy it... lucketts has a very big event around the end of may or so. you might want to check it out. it is one of the best times to go.. i am miss it this year due to a trip to spain, but i have a little time yet..btw, across the street from the lucketts general store is "Really great finds" if you love iron anything you will think you have died and gone to heaven...
Oh that sounds great! I am really going to try and go this year. So you say end of May is best huh??? then Ill look into going then. Do you know what the event is called so I can search it on the internet???? So a trip to Spain you say??? That sounds just lovely, Ive always wanted to go their since I happen to be part spaniard Grandfather on my mothers side was from spain. Would love to hear about the trip when you come back. Ok well Im off to the store now, older son has girlfriend over and they are watching a movie and apparently are in desperate need of M&M's LOL.
Ok so I just wanted to share that for my birthday I got to get some things for my garden. Now I think I told you all about my great $50 dollar find of a fabulous garden statue that normally sells for $200. solid concrete and just fabulous. Well it needed a base and I had my eye on this concrete base that was $180 well on my way to get it my friend told me about a place that sells all concrete statues and water fountains and such so i decided to go check it out. Well I found an even better base twice the size for only$120 Whoo hoo. saved $60 bucks so with the savings I went and splurged on some more plants for this spring. Now all I have to do is put a fabulous finish on it to give it some character. I also added another border to another section of my garden that I can now start planting in, I cant wait!!! Well just wanted to share.
OK people gardening time is here again! I just scored a great water fountain that I will do an old world finish to. Ive also refinished all my garden statues again to freshen them up. Anyone else out there doing anything with their yards??? Anyone???
So here is the pic of the water fountain i scored. It goes for $600 and I got it for $100. I dont have it alligned up right in the pic but you get the idea. It was a putrid peach and I refinshed it with a paint wash and stain. Now its not lined up properly here and when I have it in place Ill post another pic but for now here it is
