I was wondering what make you decide what theme you will go for your haunt ,is it the latest movie ,the old Halloween same old same or whatever your budget let you do.
For me i am the old theme like the cemetery i have to have one ,witch theme is probably dictated by my wallet . i try to ad some new thing every year if i can but i wouldn't be able to change theme every year (not that i wouldn't love to } Frenchy
what props I have available , all the areas I have , i designate props to areas i usally change the scenes each year , they may be thae sme props in those scenes but where the scene is located is different, however I do have key areas that are specific the one shed I have is usually the slaughter house, and one area is uslually the candy room . I add somthing new each yer so far and change one specific area in my haunt to a theme. One year it was with Jason vs freddy when the movie came out another time Pirates when that was popular this year it was zombieland so I guess theme wise move of popular movies may have to do vampires next year...
I have a small area to work with. So I have essentially 4 zones. Front yard, walkway, porch and garage. I try to keep these connected so there is an easy understandable transition between the zones. The front yard is a cemetary theme (stones zombies and skeletons) , the walkway is the Head Shrinker witch (more skulls) and the porch is my Reaper avatar with more skulls. The garage is this years focus. I am looking to create a cave which houses a tbd carnivorous creature with lots of left-over bones/skulls.
I'm with Frenchy. I basically try to add a large prop or 2 yearly with new smaller things put in. I don't change my theme, it just gets a big bigger every year.
Same here, as Boo Baby. But this year, we are expanding to our neighbour, to, we will spread out and make some themes per yards, also, if the maze don't gwt destroyed this year by winds, I will creat four individual rooms!
Well I actually have a yard this year lol! I live on a corner lot so my "yard actually wraps around the house. Makes a good all around graveyard though. I just got a copy of BHG magazine and I am in love with the dead and breakfast theme! Think I will do that this year!
I'm like most of the above posters. I never really had a theme. One year I found a video on making styrofoam tombstones.. so I made them. Couple years after I made a tree hanging ghoul thing, which I think was my brain child. The year after I did a cocoon victim. I can't remember what I did in '09. '10 I did a huge project, a MIB. Then a small toe-pincher coffin ground breaker. This year I'm hoping to do some grave grabbing corpsed torso's, a spit-roasting corpse and possibly even a graveyard fence. Oh my God. I made a big long addition to this post and it didn't show up >_<
the little dolls that were at superstore for halloween 2010 reminded me of the nightmare before xmas, and i live in a townhome with minimal storage, so what better than a nightmare before xmas Halloween theme =) get to use both holiday decorations..
I love to theme! We've been in our village home for 9 yrs now and have haunted for 6. It started out with my husband dressing up to give out candy while I treated with the kids. When they tot'ed with friends we decked out our side and back deck so the kiddies went down and back. We've now haunted thru our house for 3 yrs now. I envision and my husband builds......"If I dream it, they will come!" We've done a dungeon on the deck, a graveyard, and a haunted school house. Thru the house, the first year was our assortment of props in the rooms along the route. The second year we did a corn maze on the deck, then into the house with a vampire mausoleum atmosphere. And this year, when Midnight Syndicate was coming out with a Carnival themed cd, well, say no more! Got MS cd and we decided to make our Carnival interactive. Go to my blog and you can read the walk through narrative. But you know, we have adults who won't come in!!! MWAAHAHAHA!
