Is it about the day or the season?

I've already seen a number of threads where people are giving up on haunting because Halloween day turned-out crappy. Is Halloween about the one day or the Halloween season? This year I hit three haunted attractions with a number of friends who, a couple of them said, had not been to a haunted house in years. We had a great Halloween themed pot-luck at work, and myself and a couple of friends caught Saw VII on Friday.

I had people stop by the house during the whole month of October to tell me how much they like my display and how it had made them what to go home and decorate. Even if Halloween night had been a complete bust I would still have counted this Halloween a great success.

So what's Halloween to you, one night or the season?

Whole season. Halloween is an added bonus If that night goes bad it's not going to spoil the rest of the fall season for me.

Definitely the spirit of the whole season. We barely had any people but the few small groups that did stop by loved it, and ours was just a basic small cemetery with some bones. Mainly, however, I do it for myself. I wouldn't be doing it if I wasn't having fun! Next year I plan on starting in late September.

Whole season, although pregnancy has put a damper on a lot of what we normally do. Still, we went to several haunted attractions and a Halloween party and did a smaller-scale version of our home haunt.

It's about both to me. The season is about the day, and the day is about the season.

I feast upon the beauty of things that others shun. In netherworlds and crypts I dwell. I am the alien one.
I wallow in the old world, in things that they condemn. Through solitude and shadow, the outsider I am.

Hrm... well when I think of halloween, i think of all the spooky songs we used to sing in elementary school. I think of walking home from school and smelling the fresh cut fields, and walking through the fallen leaves on the sidewalk.

I also recall a year when my mother sat my brother and I down at the kitchen table with construction paper, and glue and we made halloween ornaments.

I also remember all the goofey halloween specials that would come on the TV. The worst little witch, Sat the 14th, etc.

Then i remember all the dumb rumors about which houses NOT to go to on trick or treating, which ones had the bad guys in it waiting to sacrifice the blue eyed blond hair kid. This made for an exciting nite as a kid! I remember looking forward to the streets being completely coverd with kids, and parents all making their rounds to get some great candy!

For me its all about the season! It can all come to a head on one night, but i enjoy all the sounds and smells and talk that come with halloween.

It's about the season...the smells, the colors and the feel. And the DAY is like the Grande Finale of the season for me.

Both really. The season is great (as long as it doesn't start until October 1st.), but it is also the build-up for the day. I think it helps if you have other Halloween activities scheduled through the month. If you have spent all October concentrating on building a haunt, then it would be a major letdown if the haunt is damaged or ignored.

To me, it's what you are really into it for. Some people really just care about the trick or treating, and thus Halloween is that one day for them. Some people have haunted houses (open every weekend), and they depend on that money they make, so it's the whole season. To me, I think that some of the home haunts want Halloween to have so many people, and be so perfect that sometimes Halloween is the day that is really important, and thus it's mainly about that day. Some people could dread Halloween day because they have to give candy out, and thus to them it's only a day.

I guess it is different to different people. Who knows, maybe some people enjoy a season of Valentine's Day, and New Years Day instead of just one day? I don't know.
"Dollar Tree - The High Price to Pay for $1 Prices" China stuff, taking out other stores, around every corner - 136 in 100 miles, poor wages for employees. - I only say this because people say the same stuff about Wal-Mart, but than they go to Dollar Tree.
