The Jack o'lanterns are extinguished, finished watching the Walking Dead (excellent), lights are turned off and tomorrow all the decorations start to come down.
For now, it is just me, the lingering scent of fall and charred pumpkinflesh in the air, a chill breeze, and the last few minutes of Halloween 2010. I love this holiday and bittersweet to see it go, even though can never be exactly the same as those remember childhood Halloweens. It has changed now, to entertaining others and viewing scary movies, attending Halloween attractions all month long, and even though in a few short minutes it will no longer be my favorite day of the year...it pretty much always is Halloween in my mind, insofar as interests and passions go.
I very much look forward to spending the coming days and months here with people who enjoy it as much as I do, and am glad I found this forum this year. Be well all, hope you had a truly Happy Halloween, and do take delight and enjoyment from the small elements of the holiday you can throughout the seasons to come. Happy Halloween and pleasant screams...I am off for one last smell of the night air and a look at the moon through the trees.....

This year was one of the best ones yet, we had a lot of screamers in our haunt, haha.

Yes it is bittersweet. I too will miss Halloween!! I carry it in my heart all year long.
Believe it or not for years I used to cry when it was time to turn everything off and blow out the candles - its the worst feeling. Its the feeling of such happiness/anticipation/ending of a favorite time of year. As years have gone by, I realize I used to cry because of how much I love Halloween. But the truth is, Halloween is never REALLY gone. It's just we can't have our decorations out year round like they are tonight - haha! Halloween is always with me! I leave out one or two little things to remind me of my favorite time of year whenever I need a little fix.
The toasted pumpkin smell is truly a wonderful smell.
I will miss you Halloween, come back again very soon!!!

Thank you all for the comments, and yes, for me these days it is a mix of sadness and relief, when the party is done as it were...pressure is off for entertaining but still sad to see all the stuff go back in the boxes. I keep out some items as well, inside the house, ones I really like

I couldn't have put it any better! I always feel a sense of sadness after all is said and done. And have definitely shed tears over Halloween being gone for another year. It's sad when the tear down begins and you know that everything is going back in the basement (or where ever you keep it
) for another year. I've also started keeping a few things out and around the house. Nothing major, just a few things here or there.
This year for me it is definitely a mix of sadness and relief! We had probably the busiest October we've had in years. So it's a relief that all of the craziness is over. But it makes me sad as well because we didn't get to do a lot of the things that we would normally do to enjoy the month. So I guess in a sense, we feel like we missed out on that end of it. Well, there's always next year!! And here's to hoping that we'll be able to fit in everything that we didn't get to this year!

It was a good halloween. Lots of tot's, and lots of scares at the "last house on the left"
We had a busy night. Word of mouth spread with the teenagers about our haunted yard, and we had a steady stream till about 9:30.
There were a few weird moments yesterday too, like the hooded individual that walked past my house yesterday afternoon talking to himself. He spoke in two equally weird but distinctly different voices, and one of them wanted toys pretty badly. I don't know where he came from or where he was goin, but i've never seen him before. It was a pretty creepy! Oh and the person a few streets away that kept revving a chainsaw at 1:30 Sunday morning. I had to smile at that one though, because in all likelihood Leatherface had better things to do than be in mytown Missouri on the morning of Halloween!
All in all it was a great time, and my little girl got to dress as a puppy, and trick or treat for the first time. Can't wait till next year!

I'm glad I found this Forum, too. My dispaly would have been a lot less if I hadn't gotten ideas from the awesome people here. I think the saddest part is seeing the "364 days til Halloween" on the homepage here.
Now to make a list of what I want to do for next year.......
starting with finishing the groundbreaker coffin that I started Saturday morning~!
