Does anyone else feel like this when things get down to the wire???
I was thinking about this as I drove into work this morning....I think so much of my time with my party gets lost in small details, that I wonder if they are all soo important.
So here is my question:
What do you feel is the success to a great halloween party? Would it be big props, food, small little sqeamish details, ?? Do you guys know what Im talking about?? I find my selve with the 9pm dash to the fabric store for something I think will be important, but does it really matter? 10PM 1 more coat on the gravestones??? I personally love when I'm at a party and I do notice all the little touches, but do you think our guests do?
Love to hear what all of you think!

All the time..I'm a details person..everyone says how awesome the things I do are because of details..so I push and push. The thing is..nothing is ever as detailed as I would like...so I started focusing on the big picture more ( it nearly killed me to do so ! lol ) and when that was done first I added details where I could..maybe do one big outstanding thing instead of 20 small ones.

I feel the success to a good party is largely dependant on your guests. I simply give them an environment where they can let loose and fall into the halloween spirit. Sure I have the place decorating from head to toe, but they had just as much fun 15 years ago when I had 1/10 of the decorations. I probably do it more for myself, I feel proud how far I've come and how much I've learned from everyone here.
Yes, I do get overwhelmed with all the small details. Literally makes me nuts, actually. lol I feel alot of them do go un-noticed, but what they do catch really does set you apart from the average joe.
I think BOTM has the right approach about having one outstanding thing. I'll have to work on that approach.

Those small details eventually do come out in the end. It's all worth it when folks come up to you during the party and tell you that this is the BEST Halloween party that they have ever been to and then want to do more discussing with how you made the props than socialize.

My uncle says I'm a "big board guy". In other words, I don't worry about the detail work, just the overall functionality.
As for parties, the same applies...the people make the party....all that little stuff may pretty it up, but won't make a difference

a little rant –

My wife spent countless hours trying to perfect every little detail of our party last year (which sort-of doubled as our wedding reception).
She did an awesome job, and it looked great.
But the people kind of ruined it for me.
Several RSVP-ed guests didn't show--didn't even call.
We shelled out a LOT of money to make the party great and at a time when money was tight (having just got married.) And then people just bail on you! What is up with that?
I don't have any qualms whatsoever paying for food and drinks for a party as I make decent money and like to enjoy myself. But shelling out for people who bail is LAME, not to mention all the hard work that goes into the setup, and my wife worked her a__ off setting things up.
If you RSVP to a party and don't show up, you are a jerk.
So, this year, there will not be a Halloween party.
[still bitter]

Did I just hijack this thread(?), I didn't mean to.
I forgot to say that we had little treat bags and activities for the kids, coloring, etc. and all of this was based on the number of RSVP-ed guests, but a lot of time and effort spent on details went to treats and games and stuff that mostly got put into boxes for storage after the party. That is lame.

So nice to hear from all of you!! Your right! The people make the party! The atmosphere of Halloween in general! Good food, drinks, music is all a plus! As I was reading all of the replies to this thread, I did think back about how most of my friends talked about our party for weeks afterwards, and they couldn't wait to see what I came up with for this year. Some of the ideas hubby and I had do require detail, but your right, maybe focus on just 1 or 2 new ideas, instead of overwhelming myself with all these little details. As I say this, I'm looking up how to melt Isomalt for "shattered glass cupcakes" - just came up with this recipe today...4 days before party....BUT...decided to cut out a different dessert!!!
Working at the florist today, I created a casket spray for my coffin - twigs, pine branches - half dead lilies sprayed with a wood finish - blown roses- came out pretty good! ...(yep, another dumb detail!!! )
