I have SO much to put outside and not a single thing is out yet. It takes nerves of steel to let day after day pass by and hold back. Things will start going out little by little, but still the bulk will be held back until probably Friday- perhaps even Saturday. Nerves...of...steel I tell ya. Especially seeing all the great early photos this year. But I do it for three reasons. One is because I can, and still get it all out. But my display has grown and I'm reaching the limits of what can be done in such a short time by myself. Two is the weather. I've saved so much prop misery with wind and rain. Tuesday it will rain more. Every time I can get past lousy weather is good for my props and decor. And three- I like to keep the mystery. I know many people pass by wondering if I'm doing anything big and what it will be- even wondering exactly where that crazy halloween house is. I even have a nice front window decorated to tease them. But the big display is magically there when they show up on halloween, and is magically gone the very next day.
But it ain't easy. The waiting is killing me more each day.

We've got a wreath on the door - that's it. We don't have a HUGE yard display, but we likely won't put much out until Friday and most will go out Saturday night or Sunday.
We like the idea of having our stuff out so people can enjoy it for the whole month, but we also like the idea of Halloween being like Christmas morning - the kids waking up to discover everything has been transformed overnight. But a lot of it is just being worried about vandalism if we put it out too early. I think it really hurts us in the number of TOTers we get though.
We don't have nerves of steel - we're way behind on our preparations this year.
Hang in there.

Haven't put anything up yet and won't do until.....SUNDAY!!!! But when I do, I know It's going to be the best in the street....because no one else here decorates mwahahaha. Good luck!
I've seen The Exorcist 167 times, and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!

I was just going to ask this question! I dont have much of anything out either. I love the element of surprise so I compromise and wait until the last minute to throw it together so the kids don't see it ahead of time.

I am completely decroated, short of fog and sound. Already have people stopping by and admiring the decor.
Its so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain...

We always wait. I catch a lot of flack for that reason. I can't wait till the last minute anymore. It has just gotten too large. It takes seven of us a good three days to get it done if they have all done this display before. This year we were supposed to have a lot of bad weather and my crew has decreased in size drastically so I have been working for about the last 8 days to get an early start on things. It has worked so far. Still some days of seveere weather forecast. I will probably loose half of what I have out if it comes to pass. I just hope that I am not setting lights while the TOTs are visiting again.

I actually wanted to have things out last weekend but I've been so busy otherwise that I just haven't had a chance. I got the tombstones and bats up and started to make a bed of coals last night, it just needs the black spray paint today. Not sure if I'm going to use it as a firepit with skulls and cauldrons on it or as a glowing grave. I also need to figure out a way to light up the tombstones at night and haul out all the fog machines to see if any of them still work. I also have skeletons and window silhouettes to put out. Don't think I'll have time to corpse one.
I'm going to be out of town at a party on Sat and Sun but will be getting home in time to traumatize small children.

Between sticky fingers and a storm front that should be here Thursday, I'm going to get all of mine done Friday. Been setting things out, and taking them down to test. Got the game plan, just don't want to fight mother nature.
Things are never as they seem...

Forecasters are predicting 50 - 60 mph winds and I still have gobs of work left to finish that can be done indoors. I never thought I'd be grateful for blow molds but it's been nice having them outside so the neighbors can't complain I haven't decorated. Even with bricks and concrete blocks inside, they still have to be kept semi-protected next to the house due to the wind.
ARGH!
