I'm not feeling the Halloween spirit anymore right now. When it rains, it pours, so I guess I'll start at the beginning!
I live in Houston, and it rarely ever feels like Halloween (or October, for that matter) temperature-wise. I wish it were colder, like when I used to live in NC a few years back. Sometimes it doesn't affect my mood as much, it being all hot and usually humid, but this year it is.
I was making a Sam costume (from Trick r Treat) and ended up not planning ahead enough. Wasn't able to finish the head because it involved more cutting/patterns/geometry than I am able to mentally figure out at this time, haha.
[Long story short, my husband is from the UK and FINALLY got here last month as a permanent resident, after not seeing him since January. We've both been stressed with that, moving, the cost of everything, etc. We're finally settled down in our own place now... and me without my mom's sewing machine!]
We, along with two of my friends from when I was in college (only last year), were planning on going to an anime convention here on the 30th. Now, I don't care for anime, but I also don't care for generic clubs/bars and especially their Halloween parties and costumed patrons. Anime conventions, especially ones that last all Halloween weekend, are rife with people in many awesome costumes, which is one of my favorite aspects of Halloween. Anyway, I went last year, and so with my Sam costume on hiatus, I figured I'd go as the same thing I was last year. No big deal.
But now the husband has to work all day Saturday! And one of the other friends works Friday and Sunday. So that whole idea is out the window if we can't all go together.
I've invited those friends over to my place while husband is working into the night. I have no idea what we can do to get into the spirit and have fun. I've been a Halloweenophile my entire life. It is my day, it is my month, my season, haha. My living room and dining room are autumn-themed, everything is autumn colors with me. When I think Halloween, I don't think slasher movies. I think about TOTing, that special feeling we all feel when any of us think of Halloween. That feeling that is hard to describe.
Any suggestions on something fun we could do? I'm trying to get back into the Halloween spirit after the stress and all this other stuff took it out of me. I love Halloween, and plan for it like crazy, and somehow it's all usually a let down, haha. Makes no sense, but if anything, it was good to get this off my chest!![]()

Go to a haunted house - Phobia, ScreamWorld, Nightmare on the Bayou (go next door to Party Boy to get $5 off coupons or check around to see if there are any discounts online).
Go to a pumpkin patch. Call some of them to see if they do hayrides, or corn mazes...

Halloween Movie night or Pumpkin carving party - Get a couple of movies together and watch them with lots of fun nibbles - make caramel apples, mini pumpkin pies, eat candy corn and watch something like Scooby Doo or It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and carve lots of pumpkins. Rub cinnamon on the lids of the pumpkins and stick the candles inside to get a fantastic aroma (it smells lovely - like pies baking).I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

I would definitely go to a haunted house. Also if there are any Halloween festivals/events in your area I'd try to see if you can go to one of those.
Personally if it was me I'd go to the anime convention anyway. It's a lot of fun even if you're alone, just watching all the hyper people.Zombie Eradication/Disposal Unit (ZEDU) - K-9 Patrol Division
Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

the Health Museum Downtown is having a Siege of the Skeletons display of artisan paper mache skeletons, I wanted to go yesterday but wasn't feeling quite well. They are not open on Monday.

Or you could come up to Old Town Spring and do a ghost walk. Or just have lunch at Wuensche's cafe, which is reputed to be haunted.

Halloween is a state of mind. I live in MA and was feeling the same way last year, but then I had a GREAT Halloween night. Look for like-minded individuals, usually found at haunted houses or Halloween themed events around your area. Plan to watch spooky movie, there must be plenty on TV this time of year. Invite a friend over for a spooky movie and snacks or dinner. I recommend "In the Mouth of Madness", "Rosemary's Baby" or "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!
