Here in Canada it seems retail stores are carrying less and less Halloween props this year and even costumes...I cannot fathom why that is...my theories are either sales last year were horrid and the decision not to stock up this year was made...or being Halloween falls on a Sunday retailers decided the holiday wouldn't draw as much sales as previous years...

What is everyone's observations this year...for example Walmart isn't carrying nearly as many animated props as they have in past years...their costumes kinda suck this year as well...the spirit store which opens up once a year around here isn't too bad...they have some new props (too expensive although) but I have so many props I don't really need the more expensive ones from there...

None the less it really sucks that retailers are not into the Halloween spirit this year...on the flip side of the coin...I had a chance to take a walk through my area and the surrounding area and not many people are decorating this year...compared to last year...at least not YET...

Anyways everyone please chime in I would like to know if this is the case wher everyone else resides as well...

I think there is more Halloween stuff in stores than previous years, and really it's not related to it falling on a weekend - just that the last couple of years the economy was worse than it is now. Slight improvement in economy equals more people willing to spend money on parties and such.

Halloween falling on a weekend equal less TOT in my experience. Friday and Saturday are prime party and sports activity days, and the kids go to parties or events instead of TOT. When Halloween falls on a weekday (and Sunday still counts as you can't stay out late with school/work the next day) means there will be more TOTs.

I'm expecting at least double TOT than the last couple of years.

I wish Halloween was always on a Friday or Saturday.

It's hard to predict around here what Halloween will be like....being on a Sunday, I can't see a lot of people being out too late with school/work the next day....I have off, but I'm not sure about everyone else....last year it poured rain & the Phillies were also still in the Playoffs, so we didn't get a lot of TOT'ers.....dunno what to expect this year...

I WAS disappointed in Walmart's Halloween section this year and even Party City seems on the lame side.....

hurricanegame, which part of Canada are you from? I'm from Edmonton and there are TONS of halloween stores here. 2 Spirits, and at least 5 other 10,000sqf shops around. Also, our walmart has more animated props then i've ever seen before... so maybe it's just your location? (I don't think it has much to do with halloween being on a weekend.)

I had some of my decorations out the first week of October and nobody else in my neighbourhood started putting their out until this past weekend. It seems like more people are getting into the spirit. (The treat of snow isn't helping the situation much though..)

I was wondering the same thing. Even less selection of candy. Least a lot more houses in the neighbourhood have some decorations up.

Keri I live near Toronto...I am not too sure what's up with Walmart...they have amazing inflatable props this year...but not a fan of those...they are not scary by any means...in regards to animated props...I really feel they are lacking this year, last year there were so many to choose from...it was insane...even the Walmart Superstores are below average....

Although there are many things to do this year...lots of haunted attractions around town and out of town...lots of good pumpkins to choose from...got 3 now lol....

I hope everything goes well...I got so many props for Halloween it is insane...although I hardly purchased any of them this year...

Glad to hear your neck of the woods is booming...

I'm in the GTA too, and I have to agree with you, hurricanegame. I bought my dd's Halloween costume at Wal-Mart last year. (I turned the Southern Belle costume into an awesome zombie bride.) This year, however, it all seemed to be Tinkerbell, witches and not much else. I bought both her and my costumes at Spirit last week. She's going as a zombie fifties girl. Notice a theme? And I got an awesome flapper costume. Most other stores have already switched out all their Halloween decor for Christmas as well.

Hey good to see a fellow Canadian...yeah I am glad I purchased a lot of props over the years...because we have plenty of Halloween shops around town this year....more than usual and maybe that is why retail stores strayed away from selling mass amounts of props this year....however those stores (Spirit and Spirit spin offs etc) are way too expensive and I would never purchase a prop that barely does much for close to $100 if not more...

What are your plans this year...I can't wait for Halloween I am eager to put out my animated props...

I noticed that too (Las Vegas)...even at the big retail stores (that's right...I live in the same city as the year-round HalloweenMart store...bwahahaha!) it seems like less stuff, and the stuff they have seems cheaper. I've just been chalking that up to the weak economy, though.

Personally, I love Halloween on Saturday or Sunday...it takes me two days to set up my haunt, and then I don't have to take time off of work or hang out in the garage until 1am.
