So a good friend of mine who also does a nice Halloween display and hosts an awesome party dropped off some huge corn stalks last night. These things are 8 foot tall and heavy. There were about 9 of them altogether. There was a Halloween dance at our church last night and she knew I was looking for some so she apparently loaded them up and brought them over around midnight. I had seen them out there when I took the dog out last night and was glad to have them. Problem is they leaned them against my cemetery fence side by side. We had some wind last night and when I got up this morning, one of my columns was down, along with a section of fence busted up. The gargoyle on top of the column was broken too, but I think I can fix it. Just another untimely setback! Had to vent to those who understand. Guess I have another project this week.

A good friend is worth more than any Halloween prop.

I'd rather have my props broken by my friends trying to help me than by some jerk who just wants to bust up some props.

Don't tell her about it. I'm sure she'll feel terrible so it's probably better that she never knows. Sound as appreciative as you can possibly be.

I almost did the same thing to myself. thought it was safe to put out my reaper dummy and while my back was turned the wind knocked it into the fence. It was a miracle that it did not break anything. We have not had any 'weather' except hot here for the last month....and now we have wind.
Don't tell her it will make her feel bad. Besides it is a testament to how well you build your fence, to her it looked real enough to hold weight.

That stinks, but it is what it is. The wind is to blame, just make it up to yourself and buy a new prop !

I don't plan to tell her. It was an accident. I did call her and thank her for the corn stalks. The fence is rebuilt and painted. Some gorilla glue fixed the wing on the gargoyle and I'll reattatch it to the column tomorrow and put it all back out. No harm no foul, just a minor setback. I'm definintely glad it wasn't vandals as I would feel pretty angry right now but as it stands I just have to forge ahead. Glad it was last night and not next Saturday!
