Wondering for those with kids in school, is there any kind of Halloween observation? My youngest is in 8th grade and the're having a Halloween dance on the 29th in the gym. The kids can dress up if they want and they have a DJ and snacks. The parochial school al three of them attended had a Halloween parade for parents. The teachers dressed up and then they all went back to their classroom for a little Halloween party.

When I was in elementary school, the school held a parade with music and signs for parents. Afterwords, there would be a Halloween party for each class towards the end of the day.
My younger brother is now in elementary school, and they hold a "Fall Festival" the day closest to Halloween (excluding Sat and Sun). They have a haunt walkthrough, a Halloween cake walk, and several booths with games to win Halloween-themed prizes. They let kids and adults come with costumes.-Joel From Southern California

Our school is OUT on the 29th (crap...all the nosy little buggers will be over ALL DAY while I'm trying to finish...hard to work with a dozen kids watching. Guess I'll have to put em to work.)
So, the Halloween parties are the 28th. I know they have a parade, not sure what much else.

My kids have been in 2 different schools so far(they are 7 and 5) and both schools have Halloween costume parades and Halloween parties. They also do Halloween crafts for about a week leading up to Halloween.(We've lived in California and Kansas if that matters)

my elementary school used to have the best halloween party. They would invite all the students to the school on friday night before halloween where each of the classrooms had been decorated by its respective teacher. They had crafts, cake walks, games, etc. The best part- they closed the gym a week ahead of time and built a walkthrough haunt! The teachers dressed up as monsters and scared the crap out of us. I distinctly remember my prinicpal as a vampire, a dot maze, a werewolf cemetery scene, and the gym teacher at the end in a butcher shop swinging a cut off arm at me.
Our high school also held something similar when i was in jr high and high school. At both events there was always lots of candy.
I saw a flyer for the same elemetary schools "fall festival" to be held at a community center this year. Stupid. Poor kids nowadays... daylight tot-ing, fall festivals, etc. They definitely will not have the same awesome experiences we did.Send more paramedics!!

I miss my daughter being in elementary school! I loved playing hooky from work & going to the parade & class party! She's in 8th grade now. They had to bring home a permission slip to get signed to wear a costume to school the Friday before. Guess the school wants to make sure everyone dresses "appropriately" (pppft!) No real parties, but I can't imagine them getting my work done in class!
However, someone agreed to have a praty for the cheer squad (I would have volunteered in a heartbeat if my house was bigger. I'd have to remove ALL the furniture to get any decent # of people in there.) and she's also allowed to wear her costume at her dance classes that week. Nice to know she's going to get plenty of wear out of her costume!

When I was in elementary school it was about the same. We use to dress up in our costumes in the afternoon and each class did a parade of the other class rooms then the lower grades when to junior high and high school for a parade. It was a huge deal. The whole school was decorated from head to toe in Halloween decorations.
The good old days ... now they just do a little fall festival but Halloween itself is a huge NO NO.

They don't do much here anymore. They buckled to criticism. Many of the teachers have pulled things into their curriculum though. I know that several have halloween activities all week, but especially on the day of of before. No parties anymore.
Some grades do have a JOL parade down the halls or similiar events. They also bus the kiddos to the pumpkin patch!!!
The PTO sponsors a Fall Festival on a Saturday with kids dressing up and having many booths, etc.
i used to do a HUGE haunted house at this and it was pretty intense. They dropped that though.
I also forgot to add about the middle school Halloween costume dance at my niece's school. She is really excited about this!
