There's something evil in the water. I've heard of more people being robbed then any other time. Then no one has decorations out this year, it's been terrible weather and even stores seemed to gloss over this holiday! What gives? Seriously! I so look forward to this time of year and it's just not the same this year. Did someone cancel Halloween and forget to mention it to the world? Am I the only one who feels this way?
Ok, I'm getting off my soap box. Now if anyone knows how to turn one of those into a prop I'm all ears!

I feel the same way and have mentioned to family and friends.. its not the same this year. The stores have little out and barely anyone is decorating. I felt for awhile that someone cancelled the holiday and didn't send the memo.
Well I have my things out and if I am the only one decorating, so be it. This weekend I saw a few more houses but nothing like previous years... kind of sad really.
What is up with the stores? There seems to be very little out

Not really seeing much different this year than last. The retail offerings are very weak for the most part. A lot of stores that used to carry a decent line of stuff have cut way back or limited the better items to online sales only. Theft comes with the territory and you hear these stories every year. Sad but a risk we take when putting out props. It does seem like fewer folks are decorating but I did notice today two other people on our street have put up some nice outdoor decor.
I dunno. Sometimes I think we're seeing a slow but steady decline in the holiday we love so much. Changing demographic/ financial constraints/ shift in priorities/whatever.
Will it ever die out? doubtful, but it's not celebrated in the same way it was even a few years ago. I think folks like us keep it viable and fun for the rest of the masses that otherwise might not even have any Halloween experience.

We had 4 seasonal stores in our area last year. This year not one. It's a bummer. I remember going out to haunts and I can't even find one to take the kids to. It's sad.

I had just commented in an earlier thread that I'd noticed the stores have even less than usual in stock for Halloween (and trust me not that any of the stores in my area had much to begin with).

I'm nervous every morning when I look outside, hoping that my gravestones and stuff didn't grow 'legs' in the night.
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

I think with so many issues these days many losers are using this as an excuse to cause all these problems. Such as Vandalism, theft, or bad-mouthing of the Halloween season and its decorations. Its crazy to see that many now have tightened the wallets due to many reasons but it has truly affected the Seaonal shops including the big national retailers.
I really hope that things change soon and we have a back to norm holiday we all once cherished so much! We as the spokesman(and spokeswomen) of Halloween here at the HF shall help each other keep the spirit alive no matter any/all obstacles that we may face.
Keep the spirit alive friends and Have a HAPPY HAUNTED HALLOWEEN!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

It's really the economy. Halloween as a holiday itself I think is on the rise .. but it's hard for anything to break out and have a resurgence when everyone is trying to scrape the last nickle and dime to make it.

Yea the economy stinks, I think that's the main reason that retailers cut back on the amount of stuff they have. Plus not many people have decorated yet but I think that will change as we get closer to the big day. Remember, you can decorate for Christmas 2 months early, but if you decorate for Halloween early your a freak

I haven't bought much stuff this year due to lack of money. Now I have money to spend and there's nothing to buy
. But I'm going to spend this weekend and make a big push looking for stuff, hopefully I get lucky. Remember the most important thing. We do what we do because we love it, not because everyone else is doing it. Besides how much more of a PITA would be to find stuff if everyone else did it.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!

We didn't get our Halloween decs up until about a week ago. Never have we been so late. No one in our immediate neighborhood put anything out until we did. I told the old Grumpy that we must be the neighborhood bellwether. Then those *@#$%^&'s came and stole more than ten years of decorations. But we will Churchill it on. Next year will be even better than this year was supposed to be, even if i have to hire someone to sit on my porch all night long. Hmm, note to self: In addition to budgeting for replacement of props, budget for Halloween guard's salary. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone. There's a lot of good, worthy people out of work these days.
