I want to get out ALL my HW stuff and sort thru it, but there is no room to do it. So, I figure I'll try to clean the garage. I go down there, tinker around for a minute and just leave, whimpering...

We were used to SO much storage in our old house that it wasn't a problem. Now, we have very little storage inside the house and no attic at all, so it's all in the garage from xmas to hw to bikes to tools to spare freezer, etc... just overwhelming.

Anybody recently tackle a project like this?

We had to do the same thing recently. First thing you need to do it THROW AWAY ANYTHING YOU DON'T NEED!!! It makes organizing SO much easier. Just start in one area and work your way around the room til everything is to your liking. It will be so much better once you just break down and get working on it.

Since I park in my garage I make a point of doing something with at least one item every time I go in/out of the garage. Then I'm not so overwhelmed and each time I take a moment to really look around it's getting better and better.
It's Halloween, what more do you need to know.

I think we are going to have to take a long hard look at the amount of decorating stuff we have this year... we have already had two huge yard sales and I've purged a lot of my woodworking stuff.

I have the packrat gene, so I've had to deal with this sort of thing before... I know exactly what you mean about seeing all of the stuff and just walking away from it - it's very overwhelming.

I did have to get pretty mercenary about what to keep and what to get rid of. If you haven't used it in years, it's got to go.

Craigslist or FreeCycle it - I love FreeCycle as it does help to know the stuff is going to help someone else out. Lessens the pain of getting rid of it.

I've been clearing out things a little at a time over the course of the last few weeks. We put up our walls this weekend and I'm very pleased we were able to get so much open space. The "maze" is looking great. We put up our blacklights today. We are going to LA for Universal Horror Night and Disney Halloween parties this week. I will have a solid week when I return to do all the detail work. It's going to be so much fun. The detail work is what I love. I'm so tired of running extension cords!

Just keep plugging along. It's so worth it in the end!

My neighbor is in a wheelchair and goes to special bingo games once a week along with other disabled people. She mentioned they need prizes so I have been trying to part with some of my old cutesy stuff to donate to the bingo games. It's brand new but being the packrat I am...it IS hard

Ugh that's my task for next week. The Husbands off work so we're clearing it out and moving all my Halloween stuff to one section, right now it's all mixed in with various kids bikes etc. No doubt I'll be having a hissy fit when I find out how much of my stuffs been damaged.
