ok,I am not a big prop maker,I throw parties and do alot of inside decorating,as I use to be a fashion merchandiser...don't laugh, but this year instead of putting alot of scarey purchased props outside,I decided to decorate my outside garden as an enchanted garden with a skelton theme,I have mini skeletons that I hot glued butterfly wings on to make them look like skeleton fairies,I made foam mushrooms, hot glued eyeballs on fake mum flowers, hot glued mini skeleton heads on flowers, stuck them in with my real mums,I strung black lights on my small fences I purchased,I will be hanging skeleton fairies from my tree useing fishing wire, adding spanish moss from the tree....am I missing anything?
figured since I am going through so many tests for my cancer I only have limited time on my hands....we have so many small children in the neighborhood and wanted to do this for them so it's not so scarey...oh and I bought the singing pumpkin dvd
sorry this is so long....oh and I also added a bigger skelly wearing wings and a skirt..lol,it will be holding a small watering can, watering the skelly mums.

Another thought use the new creepy cloth (it's finer than original stuff) Use it around the base of your plants and it kinda looks like fog. Could give you the effect your looking for....add some lights under the cloth and it could be magic.

i can't take credit for that one, but it is one of my fav's.
i've seen them done with tissue paper /pieces of leaves. some use a mache, while othes use varnish to achieve that effect with the leaves as wings (skeletonized leaves are even better)
i just picked up a 12" anitomically correct skeleton model to try my own hand at a mummified fairy.

btw heres a little mushroom inspiration for you (had to dig em out of the shed)

Where do you get the butterfly wings? I've been toiling with skele-fairies for a while but can't get the wings right. I've tried latexed tissue covering wire, grape leaves, etc and haven't come up with a winner yet. I'm going for perfection here as these will be gifts (in jars) for friends who need a little Halloween Spirit.
Undead and loving it!

You could carve pumpkins to look like fairy houses! Carve windows and doors, you could add some of those skeleton garland skele's (from the dollar store) peeking out of the windows. Hang some windchimes or lanterns around the garden too.
'Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
