So when my wife and I were looking to move, we wanted to find a house, not an apartment... and a good neighborhood. We WANTED to move to this one community nearby that is absolutely THE place to go at Halloween... they are mobbed... every year... every house is done up. Parents outside sharing a beer with the neighbors... its like ToTing is a block party there.

But alas, the homes were a little small, and way out of our budget.

So we moved elsewhere... closeby, but by no means does it have the same sense of community. My wife and I joke that we live in a retirement community. The neighborhood was built between 1978 and 1982 or so, and almost all of the homes were purchased by 30somethings that never moved out... so almost without fail our neighbors are empty nester's in their 60's or 70's. We have a few younger families, but they are by far the exception and not the rule.

So last year is our first year there, and I had a modest halloween display:

We were the only house on the street with anything... a block or so down someone had some purple lights in a bush. But thats it - you'd never know it was Halloween but for our house.

We got very few ToT's, but we did have foot traffic... people taking pictures of our very meager display.

This year I dont have anything out yet - I'm about tripling the size of the display this year (adding more tombstones, a blood barfing zombie, a rattling, fogging, earthbusting coffin, and a thrashing spider victim to go with the whole front of the house covered in webs, all triggered by motion sensors and laser tripwires). I didnt want to overwhelm the neighborhood with TOO much too soon. That and I want to have my security camera instealled before anything goes out. (grr that I need that).

So far, I'm seeing more halloween stuff pop up every day in my neighborhood. Our example last year? Who knows. But I'm hoping that maybe next year even more get in the spirit of the season!

    Bwahahhahaha!

Maybe a modest start but I see you used a fogger too. I'm glad to hear that the halloween decorating is spreading. BTW I just bought the Spirit Zombie ground breaker you have, and need to get him out of the box. He looks good in your yard.

    Keep at it...

You may be the inspiration that others need. Maybe others were a bit reticent about how it would be received, and seeing your might persuade them to do their own this year.

Good luck, and keep building it up...

There are children here somewhere. I can smell them.
