I have been in my current house for 6 years now. When I moved here no one around me did anything for halloween. The 1st year we had about 50 TOT's. I kept making my display a bit better each year.
The 2nd year my neighbor decorated a bit at his house, still about 50 TOT's.
4th year 4 houses of 10 on my block decorated. we had about 125 TOT's.
As of last year 8 of the 10 houses on my block had decorations out. we had about 300 TOT's!
As of right now of the 2 blocks where my house is there are decorations out in front of 22 houses there are about 40 homes in the 2 blocks of my street. I have a steady stream of people out walking up & down our street everynight. My wife & I have received complements from so many people this year it makes ya feel happy & wanna do a bit more.
I was out working on my haunt yesterday & the guy who lives across the street who normally doesn't talk to me other than saying hello brought me over a cold one & we sat & talked for about an hour. When he left he took some blow ups & other items I wasn't using for his yard. he has never decorated for anything the whole time i've lived here.
Very happy haunter here in central NY!

Congrats... and lol... I just posted a similar thread!
Although we haven't been doing this as long as you have... this is our 3rd year
Nor have we had as much success... we are still the only house on our block who decorates and we only got 125 kids last year....
But I agree with you... all growth and victories are worth celebrating!Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable

In all the many (18) years that I've been doing this, no neighbors, no one anywhere near our place, has ever decorated for Hallowe'en. Reading a post like this really makes me smile.

What a nice thing to read! Sometimes I think non-decorating parents are also influenced by their kids--you know "so and so decorates his/her house, Can't We decorate ours too? Pretty please....." You obviously set a great example that so many people are now emulating.

Although last year one of the duplexes did at least put up one of those screen door cover things.
