hello, this is my first post here, ever since I was small my mom and I always decorated our house on Halloween, a few dummies and spider webs, nothing huge, now that I am in charge of it all, I am planing on increasing the size of our haunt considerably , I am looking to build a cemetery fence with columns and the whole shebang

however, I am having considerable trouble deciding on the lay out and placement, here is my problem, we recently moved from IL to kentucky, and me and my mom rent a couple of 2 family duplexes, she lives on one side, and I on the other, and we decided to just concentrate on decorating one side.

however the lay out of the yard and driveway , and the way the foot traffic came to the door last Halloween is kind of funky and leaving me at a bit of a loss on just how to set everything up, it is sort of a corner lot, next to an empty lot on the other side of which is the back of a house facing the adjoining street, so most of the trick or treaters come straight up the drive way or from the other side of the duplex, I made up a crude MS paint picture to show the layout of the property and the flow of foot traffic.

I would really like a walk through scene / graveyard / haunt where they can walk through the gate / haunted area to the door, but I am not sure if that is practical or not, my other option would be just to enclose the entire haunt and keep it on the lawn and just have them walk past it on the drive way up to the door.

any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Hmm. Maybe folks don't understand the problem.

You want to have a walk through haunt on the large lawn area, but are worried folks will just bypass it and make a beeline for the door, right?

Maybe you need to disguise the door.... Hang a sheet or something in front of it, level with the front of the garage (Maybe with a prop in front of that?) You could put a slit in the sheet so folks could exit that way, but otherwise it won't be inviting.

Then stick some kind of archway or "weenie" as I think Walt Disney called it, over near the entrance of the yard walk through to draw people's attention. Some kind of fence might help too, but that's a lot of work.

Sorry, I just have a tiny yard and not much traffic so this is a little out of my league. Do you have a theme for the yard haunt? How many kids to you get?

LOL! I have to say I love your name! Very funny.

I think Gobby has a good idea. Putting something in front of the front door to disguise it might be good. Otherwise, what you could do is make a trail you want the ToTs to follow. Have the direct path to the door blocked off a bit, and instead create a path through the yard that you want them to go so they'll be able to look at all your stuff.

I would suggest making some fences out of pvc pipes and long 1x2 boards. These are really simple to make and really don't take all that long to do.

You could just put your graveyard facing the driveway too, and if you have lights in it or around it to draw the eye, I'm sure they won't miss it.

Maybe put the columns you make to either side of the little path up to the door, and put some gravestones up that way too?

If you have any ideas that are brewing in your own mind about this, it might be good to post those as well, as they can inspire different ideas from the rest of us.

I hope this helps a little, but if not, just hang in there, I'm sure somebody will hit on a great idea for you!

    Welcome to the boards, btw!!
