A few of you may remember, I posted this last year, too, but I love it so much I wanted to share it with you guys again. Most people wouldn't understand, but I know the folks on here do. It's a little sappy, but I think it captures the season.
To My Son, on Halloween
May you always feel the way you do on this day.
With the newly chilled air on your tiny ears,
And the smell of impending winter in your nose for the first time.
May you always feel the way you should in a good costume.
I hope it makes you feel brave, bold, and safe.
May you relish being slightly scared, and be able to
enjoy that feeling, knowing that mommy will always
be your glowing, warm home to rush back to.
Enjoy and remember your first taste of candy,
as I will always remember kissing your sticky face and fingers.
Today I see your future, years of superhero costumes
and monster costumes stretch ahead of you,
and I feel my heart stretch out to follow you trick or treating.
I see you running further away from me, embroiled
in Halloween madness, my little candy berserker.
And I see myself smiling, watching you, savoring
what I hope will be the best memories of your life.
May you always feel the way you do on Halloween.

You're welcome to steal it! In fact, you can't steal it because I'm giving it to you. I'm just glad someone else enjoys it.

I remember that feeling and those sentiments with my kids.....alas, they grow older, too old to recall these wonderful times. They now view Halloween as "kids stuff" and don't see the same wonder i have held since i was a kid. I can only wait until such time as they have children of their own and learn to embrace this holiday as i have kept it all of my life.......

I also get it but I am not a parent. It makes me remember when I was a kid and how I felt, one of the reasons still today this is my favorite time of the year. It also makes me wish I had klids, to see it all again as I did, through their eyes...

I forwarded this to a friend who goes all out on Halloween. For his kid but really for himself! Super.
