    Hi all!
I have a question I have been dying to ask for years regarding costume choices at Halloween in the US (and possibly other countries??).
    That is:-

Why, at Halloween, do people dress in normal costumes and not just spooky/gory/halloween costumes??

Just a guess, but probably to make it more kid-friendly. Plus a lot of people see Halloween costumes as just a kid thing...kids who are afraid of their own shadows aren't going to wear "scary" costumes.

Oh I see. I just remember being a kid and making my own costumes - i.e. dracula (bin liner for a cloak! haha) and my sisters had these plastic scary monster printed things over their heads when we went out trick or treating.
Also, places that are selling kid's halloween costumes (they just come out once a yr in our stores) - well, they are all scary! lol. Except witches outfits of course. You get the occasional fairy in there as well but that's it really.

What about anyone else in the UK? Do the kids around you wear scary costumes??

I think some people don't like scary stuff, so they would choose to dress like their fav celeb or whatever.
I think for the general population the holiday is very much focused on dressing up in a costume, more than entertaining the darker aspects of it.
Whenever I go into a "Halloween store" I'm expecting so much only to find that they are all 90% costumes, 10% decoration/props.

Yeah, the stores aren't that brill and I have to order alot off e-bay to be honest. It's the space they dont have although my local fancy dress place has quite alot - some they are still waiting to put out! They make quite a big section out of it now which is brill for me! I get so excited - even back in August! lol
