For something more subtle, I used the names of the streets in my neighborhood, as they sounded like people's names and would be amusing to those who "got it" and just spooky to those who didn't. Put a few similar ones together and it even looks like a family plot. Example:

Redwood Way, Glenwood Way, Ashwood Way, Rosewood Way all became:
    Here lies Red Wood
    Glen Wood b. 1602, d. 1695
    R.I.P Ash Wood
    Beloved Rose Wood 1582-1614

and Hazel Ct. and Bridget Ct. became two sister tombstones:
    Here lies Hazel Court
    Bridget Court 1601-1686

Then there were a few streets that are just plain last names, like R.I.P Benson. A little more boring perhaps, but if its a major street it adds to the joke.

I was also very lucky that I was able to use the actual address ranges on the street to be the dates of birth and death, so there really are houses at 1601 thru 1686 Bridget Ct. Same with the other street ranges.
