There was an extravagant home haunt owned by a guy with money and a mansion. Seemed like participants practically had to be stuntmen to get through the haunt, and I think you went through in teams. People lined up outside the house's gates far in advance to be able to get the few free tickets, otherwise it was invite-only. The owner stopped doing the haunt for a while. (I think it may have been in Texas???)
Someone on Halloween Forum posted about it this year, wondering why they hadn't heard more about it before. Does anyone recall the name of the haunt or more about the thread? I wish I had subscribed to it, as I now want to tell someone about it but my brain is like a sieve. (We're having a little discussion on the psychology of haunting.)

That doesn't sound like JB Corn.

LonnieC, no I don't think it was JB Corn because he did some pro stuff. This was some rich guy's personal house and property. I had not heard of him before. Participants had to climb ladders and, I think, even row a boat with their team. And this was all done by flashlight!
The hard part is that once I read about it on this forum, I did a web search and read some more elsewhere. So some of what I'm saying here may not have actually been printed here. I just remember the original post saying how jealous he was of having a haunt like that. It did sound very different from most of our haunts and I was envious too.

Someone finally figured it out: Britannia Manor, in Austin, Texas.
Run by a video game designer. Verified it on Wikipedia, and even found video on cNet

Looks like they did indeed have to row boats. What an experience!

Yep, that would be Lord British's (Richard Garriott) home, Brittania Manor in Austin, TX. He shut it down years ago, but some of the people involved went on to a new venue called Wild Basin Haunted Trail. They ran this for years, and then combined their efforts with Scare for a Cure. This has all come full circle now, as Richard Garriott is a sponsor of Scare for a Cure, and there are rumors they will move the haunt into his new home that is being built, Britannia Manor Mark 2.

I'd love to go. Let's hope it happens soon. Is it near you?

No, I'm in North Texas and this is located in Central Texas. I was bummed when the first one closed down, but now it appears to be going again. It's not your typical haunted house. It's more of an interactive adventure. You have to participate in the story and figure out what is going on in the attraction.
