I have been setting up the first weekend of October since 1999. Then I had some of me stuff stolen and so now I generally set up the day before and tear down that night after all the TOTs are done. This is driving me crazy because I want to set up NOW. So here is what I have decided to do. Every day for the rest of the month I'll Put out one more thing that really is not expensive or easy to steal. so by the end of the month all I have to do is the big stuff. So today the spooky tree went up and I placed a $1 store tomb stone by it. Tomorrow another $1 store headstone, etc. So anyway here is a pic of the scary tree.

    Love the spooky tree Zach.

I know what you mean by fearing that people will steal our Halloween props. I have never yet (fingers x-sed) had anything stolen from my front lawn, but last summer I did catch some teenagers trying to steal a lawnchair off of my front lawn and that same summer my neighbours sons bike was stolen. Those incidents alone made me leery of setting up my display too soon.

Well today I couldn't take it anymore and put up my headstones and most of my outdoor items. To heck with them I figure. As soon as I had completed a couple of young women walked by and called out that it looked great. Aaah, does my heart soo good, I sooo LOVE this holiday.

As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

I wouldn't think the tree was a prop, if I were a crook. I'm going to try & put mine it up in one day, not only will it be a Wow all at onece, but I'll Wow myself since I'm not sure I can do it. Go with your Guts.

    That tree is awesome!

Little by little is how I do it too, start about mid-month and wind up with a big finish the last couple days - only put the really good stuff at the end - gives me time to play with arrangements and lighting, and not worry about losing anything valuable!

I understand your concern. My wife and mother-in-law have been freaking out about that possibility since we are revamping our entire front yard this year. But I'll be damned if I'm going to let the possibility of thieves or vandals ruin my fun.
Do what you have to do. Have fun with it, and thank you on behalf of your neighbors!
