Hi everyone,
Been reading the forums for a little while now. Decided to sign myself up.
I love Halloween, every year I make sure I put out at least a few decorations for the trick or treaters. However, my street just doesn't seem to bother with Halloween, which is a real shame.
Its getting bigger over here in the UK, so hopefully it'll be a bit different this year.
I have decided to go all out on my house this year and make it something everyone stops too look at.
I was wondering if any other UK fans do the same, maybe you have some examples of your previous endevours!
The front of my house is concrete unforuntately...not grass so I cant have any staked down tomb-stones etc. So I'm looking for some ideas...maybe you can help out?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi there!
I think I am the only one as well that bothers with Halloween on our street or even in our area!
We live on 'Elm Street' hehe, so last year we pinned a Freddy K sign on our door which people loved!
This yr, doing Twisted Fairy Tales, I have to come up with something different.
We have no front lawn/yard as we live in a Terraced house.
Was thinking:-
Giant werewolf silouhette in the main window (you could do a slasher scene)
Front door covered with a fake mirror saying 'Enter through the Looking Glass' in dripping blood wording' - but you could use the normal horror door covers from Scene Setters. There are loads of creepy ones!
Get a large skeleton and 'hang' him out of the bedroom window. Either do it so looks like he has been holding on to the cill or, by the noose?
Anything glow in the dark that you can put on would be good as well as the fake cobwebs you can stretch across the front as they should stick ok and are cheap.
Hope that helps a little bit!

HallowsEveUK-
Maybe lights and sound effects, and I agree that hanging props would be good.
Piggle-
You HAVE to play up on the Elm Street thing! That is too good not to use! Lucky

I am completely with you on this one! I am the only person in the neighbour hood that really makes an effort for halloween and I also have the same problem with having no grass
I've begged me mum to change it to grass today actually (as i still live at home as im only 19 ) I have one or two hanging props, yet have to put up a gazebo to hang most of them. I also have the 6ft butler from asda and will be getting the witch from there any day now, but then I have the problem of where to put them as they are not waterproof and it all ways rains without fail on halloween night. Yet, i want everyone to enjoy them as much as me

I hope more people get involved and just generally the uk

Thanks for the replies everyone. Some good ideas.
We have a bay window at my house, so Im thinking of putting a blow up piece there, like a huge skeleton or something. I currently have lights to go round the windows etc.
I'm going to start a blog about my decorating adventures, so be great to have some feedback once I put it all online which should be sometime this evening.
Anymore ideas would be most welcome!

I second theworstwitch
The easiest way to go to make an impact is with lighting and sound.
I've done the yard setup in this country for 2 years now, this will be the 3rd. And last year we had parents coming from the other side of town to bring their kids to our house cause they heard there was nothing like it. We had cars, taxis and even the police stop by to have a look.
I have a few gravestones, pumpkins with glowsticks in, windproof 4 ft candles, and skeleton bits scattered around the yard. That cheap webbing and a couple giant spiders strewn across the yard go a long way.
I know you said you don't have a yard but you can easily manipulate those ideas. Mainly the webbing i'm thinking.
But my main advice would be get a couple colored spotlights (ebay, electrical store) and some decent speakers hooked up to an ipod/cd player/computer blaring out some spooky sound effects and your golden.

Excellent.
Thanks for the tips.
Music/Sound effects is a must, that is something i will definitely do.
Webbing I also considered this morning. Think I'll head out an get alot of spiders webs etc!!

I'm fortunate in that the street I live on (in Kingston Upon Thames), makes quite an effort, we don't get any American style haunts but people do place things in windows, lanterns in the garden etc.
I guess the obvious sulotion for you is to make use of your front door and the windows at the front of the house, I think one of the most effective Halloween decorations is a jack o'lantern glaring out of a window. And maybe just a Happy Halloween wreathe or banner on the front door, quite low key but if you put it out early enough maybe you'll encourage neighbours to follow suit........?
Good LuckThe steeples are white in the wild moonlight,
And the trees have a silver glare;
Past the chimneys high see vampires fly,
And harpies of upper air. That flutter, laugh and stare.
