I was reading "Death Makes a Holiday" today (when I should have been shelving books) and the author brought up the point that Halloween has gone the way of Christmas and Thanksgiving in the sense that it's now very PC and commercialized (IE children dressing up as cartoon characters, certain candies defining themselves as THE Halloween candy, etc.). He wrote that a lot of the important, core traditions (bonfires, fortune telling, mischief) are slowly disappearing.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever, probably when they were little, performed a prank when they didn't receive candy?
if not, what Halloween pranks HAVE you done?

I have toliet papered a few houses when I was little. We got caught once and had to clean it all up. I think my friends and I had just as much fun cleaning it up and throwing it at eachother so it wasnt that much of a punishment.

Personally, I am not sad to see this "tradition" disappear. I think kids getting into mischief and commiting acts of vandalism has always been a dark blot on the whole holiday.

I agree with Madame Leota
NEVER..... Even as a kid I couldn't imagine egging or tping someones house.... it always seemed so mean and undeserved.
It is sad that people use Halloween as an excuse to do bad stuff
When I was growing up, we had a couple of kids in our neighborhood who used Halloween as an excuse to break windows, steal stuff, tip over plants, hurt small animals etc.
And it wasn't enough to give them a "treat", they had to like the "treat" you gaveDarkness has a hunger that's insatiable

I do agree with you madame leota. As an adult now Im not proud of doing those types of things but I just thought I would post about my experiences as a kid.

Dee I think it is great that you are brave enough to admit that you tped someone elses house... I know 100s of people who have done it but would deny it today.
You took responsibility for your actions both as a kid and as an adult...
And luckily most people are like you... they stick to relatively harmless tricksDarkness has a hunger that's insatiable

I've TPd a few houses, but not on Halloween.
Unfortunately, in our area, local teens smash all the pumpkins. We live in a nice area and cannot leave them outside at night or they are smashed all over the street and yards. One year, some kids threw them out the car window and smashed a windshield!
