Today started the Countdown to Halloween series of halloween projects & recipes on the Martha Stewart Show (on Hallmark Channel now). Just thought we could comment on what gets shown each day. BTW the show repeats the following day so if you missed it and want to see it, you still have another chance if you are reading this on Monday. Check your local TV viewing guide for times.

Monday 9/27 - "Recipes From the Garden" ep. - Didn't see the whole show today and will catch it again tomorrow but in the last 10 minutes or so of the show (last 2 segments) they showed how to make hanger ghosts for your trees using dry cleaner metal hangers, white panty hose, poly fill, cheese cloth. They distressed the cheese cloth with a wire bbq cleaning brush and aged it a bit with coffee in a spritzer bottle. Something easy to do with the kids.

Tuesday 9/28 - "Seth Meyers" ep. - at the end of the show they had a segment on a few indoor decorating tips and the project was on making treat gift bags using cupcake stencils to decorate the outside of the bag. While I thought the halloween segment was just okay, I thought Seth Meyers from SNL was hilarious, so the hour went by fast. Martha's comment involving her probation had me LOL. They also aired a promotional spot for her Halloween special with Brendan Fraser coming up on 10/10. Brendan's been in the series of Mummy movies (although not as the Mummy) but I imagine they might play with that fact.

Coming up: Wednesday's show (with Todd English) will be on designing your perfect Halloween party.

Wednesday 9/29 - "Crafting with Sea Glass" ep. - again the halloween segment was at the end of the show. She showed one of the MS invites, a decorated buffet table and she made a pea dip with toasted tombstones called R.I.P. (Rest in Peas). She does promote her products on the show, mostly by showing them being used; and certainly you don't have to buy them but instead use them as ideas for your own. The segments so far have been pretty short and I'm hoping she's going to delve into a bigger projects soon. I know she's got the hour-long special coming up but would love to see some real good craft or recipe ideas on the regular show.

She gave a reminder on her show today and wanted to pass that on here that tomorrow, Thursday, the Martha Stewart halloween-related craft shopping segments will air on HSN. It's 2 hours long.

According to the HSN website it will air ET from 10-Midnight and PT from 7-9pm. Later tonight the items that will be featured will be posted for 24-hour pre-viewing. Check their programming guide for more info.

I wonder if there will be anything "special" for HSN viewers that's not already available through Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, Walmart, Target, etc. (remember that both Michaels and Joann's have coupons you can use ).

I always hated Martha Stewart...UNTIL I learned how much she loves Halloween. My opinion about her changed from that moment. She does have a fun-loving, "weird" side. So I love 'er. And I love her Halloween specials. They just always feel so spooky and fun.

Thurs. 9/30 - "Katherine Heigl" ep. - Halloween segment again at the end of show (apx last 5 minutes). Today was on cake decorating using a Martha Stewart Craft Cricket Cake stencil machine. This machine like the Cricket paper version used in scrapbooking, has stencil cartridges, except this version will cut out designs onto edible gum paste of varying thicknesses. You chose the design you want, size it for your project, and the Cricket does the cutting. They cut out a large gum paste witch on the show and the machine was fast. Useful for cake, cupcake, etc. decorating. They showed a smaller design done as the text "Boo!" which was then layered on top of a black cut out version sized slightly larger with the effect of the text being shadowed. Very nice.

They didn't say how much the machine or the cartridges were during the show, but they will be featured on tonights 2-hr HSN "Martha Stewart Hollidays featuring Halloween" craft shopping show. The items being sold tonight are on the HSN website now--The Martha Stewart Crafts Cricket Cake with cartridge is $399.95 (various payment schedules available up to 4 payments of $99.99, incl. free shipping; a 5 pymt is available with the HSN credit card). The Cricket will be sold during the first hour and is preorderable online. There's also a video of it being demo'd on the HSN website if you are interested.

Looks like HSN is selling the Seasonal cartridge, the Elegant Cartridge, and the All Occasions Cartridge as well ($59.95 each). Check out the mixed reviews on the product, some people had no problems getting great results, others struggled.
