Hubby and I had a date night this past weekend and decided to go to one of the Haunted Attractions here in Houston. We usually go to one every year. This year we decided to go back to Phobia http://www.darke.com/. This is 8 seperate attractions that you can do, three of which are "off site" . 50.00 for 5 at the same location. I can't tell you how disappointing it was. Maybe because we had been there before and kinda knew what we were going to see and expecting the unexpected? Maybe because it was opening night there was practically NO ONE there and the actors must have been bored out of their minds because we had groups of them pretty much follow us and scream at us the entire way(yes, I left with a headache ). Maybe because they were very much "in your face" and I have to say, I should have offered several of them a tic tac or something as well as some deodorant. It was VERY hot inside the attractions and we were sweating profusely. Maybe because their props/scenery were really poor( this was NO Transworld exhibit) Needless to say... we were sad that we didn't really get a thrill out of this anymore. We are going to try one we havent been to before in a few weeks but I guess we may be judging them on some amazing things we have seen here and on line and these places just aren't fun anymore. Anyone else ever been really disappointed or thrilled with a haunted attraction?

Kind of like seeing the same movie over and over, it sounds like. That's why so many pro haunters redo or retheme their attractions regularly.

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that, baboomgirl. I suppose I can cross Phobia off my list, just in case we get a chance this year. I was thinking about ScreamWorld, since we drive by it pretty regularly. Ever been there?
DH and I usually intend to hit one of the Houston-area haunts each year, but once I set up my yard, I do not go anywhere at night. Gotta keep an eye on the neighborhood miscreants, ya know? This weekend would prob. be my only shot, but I bet you're right about the opening weekends being less well-executed than later on in the season...
The only one we've been to recently was in Las Vegas (FrightDome or whatever they call it--over at Circus Circus). It's pretty high budget, and they re-theme every year, so it's been awesome all 3 times we've been to it.Gothikim

Hey Gothikim... yeah it was a bummer...BUT I would recommend Screamworld AND Phobia to anyone who has never been. I think it really was more that weve been there and knew what was going to happen. I think Screamworld was a little shorter...but far better as far as the props they had from what I remember. I would like to try Nightmare on the Bayou at some point just to see what its like...but these places are so expensive its hard to justify going to more than one each year. I would love to see some out of state shows but with 3 kids just don't have the resources to travel just for that purpose
