I have a list of things that I have NOW learned before I started making my own props.
1) I wish I knew the heavier the prop the more difficult it is to set it up.
2) I wish I knew how to paint so I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not my props look realistic.
3) I wish I knew making your own things = to taking up so much time.
4) I wish I knew that YOU DO NEED TO LET LAYERS DRY OR YOU WILL GET MOLD!!!! ( actually I knew this I just pretended that I didn't.)
5) I wish I knew that there is no such things as taking a break, because it only means it will take you that much longer to finish.
So is there anything you wish you knew before making, setting up. preparing, any of your themes/ props/ creations?

The only downfall of Halloween is it only happens once a year.

I wish I had seen pictures of some of the great haunts like Skull and Bone, House of Bloodthorn, and Davis Graveyard before I started buying and building props. The first year or two I just went at it as the more the merrier. Now I spend time making sure everything has a certain creep factor and does not look too fake.

I wish I knew how expensive, time consuming, and addictive it would be....

I wish I knew the lottery numbers back in 1990 so I could have struck it rich and opened my dream pro-haunt!

There is really not enough room or time for all the things I wish I knew before....
But the few most important are these:
1. I wish I had a forum like this to turn to when I first started about 14 years ago.
2. I wish I had understood the importance of quality lighting ( i am still working on this)
3. I wish I had understood the difference it can make for a prop to be placed in a scene, not just plopped in the yard (working on this also).
4. I wish I did not jump in and buy or build everything I see on here on a whim (stopped doing that), as very often it turns out there is a better alternative just around the corner. Research everything.
