I have to share my story of woe with some folks who I'm sure will appreciate my immense disappointment.
A couple of months back I decided that I'd like to go down to Salem for this Halloween. It's honestly something that I have always wanted to do (surprise, surprise) so I figured now was a good time.
I made some phone calls at the time to a bunch of hotels down there and disappointingly found out all the hotels were booked for the Halloween weekend. I put my name on a waiting list or two but honestly never figured I'd hear another thing about it. The thing I found out about booking a room in Salem for Halloween is, first of all very expensive, the cost to go being up around $800.00 to $1200.00 for the trip. That the hotels have a usually 3 night minimum stay and require full payment up front and most, if not all (don't remember exactly) had a no refund policy if cancellation is needed so honestly I really didn't think I'd get a call...who would cancel if they weren't going to get a refund?!
Well lo and behold I got a message on my phone the other day saying a room had opened up for Halloween weekend and it was mine if I want it. I so want it but I just can't afford to go this season and that fact is just about killing me. I'm so upset about it...I so would LOVE to go.![]()

As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

Oh Boo Baby, I'm so sorry to hear this newz, I can only imagine how devistating that must be. I too Long to go there, dream about it often as well as going to NOLA, but unless I won a huge Lotto I doubt it is going to happen...Are there other friends who'd want to go with you where you could all share the cost?
I truly hope it all works out for you. If not I'm sure everyone here will do there best to help keep your Samhain Spirits up

I'm sorry to hear that. I'd love to go to Salem and NOLA, too someday. (and Cassadaga, and Sedona...)
I'm bummed this season as well. One minute, Halloween is on, the next, it's off. I'm just going to have to go on the assumption that it's just off, and ignore the "It's back on" baloney when he starts it again. I had also really hoped to be moved into a new location before the big day, so that "on-or-off" was up to ME, and me alone.
Hopefully, even if you don't get to celebrate big in Salem, you will still get to celebrate!

Salem at Halloween is really not that great (over crowded, Christians protesting, etc.). We've been to Salem several times and the best time we found was when they had their "haunted happenings".
http://www.hauntedhappenings.org/dailyevents.php
We especially like their Bizzar Bizarre (Salem Chamber of Commerce Haunted Biz Baz). This is October 9th this year. """Over 100 vendors. Shop for uniquely Salem items, be entertained by street performers, and listen to some great music. """
Check it out on the net. They even have a night-time parade! When, I don't remember, but it was the Coolest parade we ever seen. Hearses, hearses and more hearses. Costumes, celebrations, etc.
Try looking for a room in Danvers. It's just a hop, skip and a jump into Salem and the rooms are cheaper.
I hope this helps?

you could try the small town next to salem...danvers... way cheaper and actually danvers is where the whole witch thing actually happened. they changed their name to get ride of the bad pr about a 100 years ago. anyway. try danvers and take the T in. salem hotels usually book a year in advance for haunted happenings. try other local towns and take the t in...parking is a mess in salem...I've been there many many times..and it is good..but is also kind of a let down. very crowded as well..almost too crowded to enjoy...just my 2 cents.

ALSO..try an off weekend...or stay mid week.. salem celebrates haunted happenings all month long..go mid week..less crowds and most of the same stuff....half the price. stay in a nearby town and take public transportation. you can walk all of salem in about 3 hours..take a few night walks/tours and head home. could definatly be done as a day trip. I too agree salem was a big let down. very much like a carnival. sometimes they actually do have carnival rides around. expect lots of cheezy things during haunted happenings and carni food vendors

I've always wanted to go too, so I can imagine your let-down.
So sorry!
But I'm kinda glad to read the posts here - maybe it'd be better if I planned a trip earlier in October and stayed in Danvers instead. Thanks for the tips gang!
