Do you tone down your decor for little kids?

So I was at Party City last Saturday and buying a few props. More than once, I saw kids picking out props and their parents telling them that they were too scary and needed to find ones less scary for kids. I just rolled my eyes.

Then when I was at the cash register, I had a large winged vampire with arms that you could extend out with a really scary face, open mouth with fangs in my cart. When I had to take out the items underneath it, I lifted it out of the way and it happened to swing arms open, mouth agape with fangs, towards a little girl (must've been 2 years old) who was sitting in the cart behind me. I heard her whimper and her mom saying, "It's okay. It's just make believe." I pretended that I didn't know what was going on. I felt an eerie sense of joy and now a tinge of guilt.

For those of you who decorate for Halloween for parties or just for fun, do you take the little kids into account and tone it down? We've had a party each year for the last 5 years and have had toddlers and older kids there. We have never toned down our decor for their sake, although a few have complained that some props are too scary. I've found that they eventually overcome their fears over time and enjoy it as the years pass. I think that parents should keep their kids home if they think that the props are too scary.

I have toned my halloween decor WWWAAAAYYYYYY DOWN. But I did it because I have nephews and nieces who are kind of UM....fragile. And when I think about it I do it for them and the TOTs. It wouldn't be worth the effort or fun if it wasn't for them. So I don't mind. And plus I found that as I get older I have more of an appreciation for the friendly, vintage kind of halloween, as oppose to the gore I used too love.
The only downfall of Halloween is it only happens once a year.

I have had a parent come to my door and say "it isn't appropriate for little ones is it?" and I said no it isn't but I don't do it for them the older kids love it. Not to mention my 4 year old nephew sits in my garage and helps me paint tombstones and is around my stuff all year long meanwhile every other kid his age runs screaming. He demands he be the one to open my door and greet people on Halloween and he tells them "it is fake". You know you have created a monster when you have a 4 year old that says "can we get online and look at giant spider ideas?" HAHAHAHA.

I hate to admit it, but I cave every year. I tone it down - so I won't be culled from the herd. Since we live in base housing we're all just a bunch of sheep.

Hmm, maybe there is a theme there.

we don't go to the gorey side. We do more of surprise type scares, and keep the pumpkin patch kiddie like so the parents can distract them to the right to get the to the front door.

Nope, I'm not toning the display down at all for the little ones, sadly enough for them...!
But everyone who comes to my yard does have the option of coming up the driveway and passing up the fun-filled attraction altogether...boo !
