I saw a tutorial using a bath towel placed in front of a head stone, then covering it with dirt or potting soil to make it look like a fresh grave. The reason for the towel is so the soil won't absorb or spread into your grass as quickly.

IMO: I don't think people pay much attention to the ground cover; I wouldn't expend a lot of effort spreading dirt. I do use a couple bags of black spider webbing material and stretch it out low between a couple tombstones and toss in some red rose craft flower petals for accents.

Have you tried cam netting or burlap? Maybe a combo of both.

Actually speaking of the towels maybe you could dye old towels earth colors and rip them up and mush them around.

I would suggest using cheap/old towels, dying them earth colored, and then spraying them with a spray glue... then sprinkle on fresh dirt. you can use chicken wire or newspaper to simulate different heights of the dirt (higher = newer grave).
How many days do I have left?

Something cool you can do that is really easy ...

Get some expanding foam and slowly spray it over a used beach blanket or plywood sheet. Let it dry overnight. Paint it red and you got some nasty looking thing coming out of the grave!
