I was spending my afternoon thrift shopping for Halloween goodies. Found some things at the Out of the Closet thrift store, so I drive to Goodwill to see what they have. As I walk in the door they are setting up their Halloween window display...unloading the cart to the shelves and setting their large items on the floor in the front..I think to myself, wow perfect timing...so I'm eyeing everything and the lady says in a not so friendly voice.."not til Sat. the 25th"...I didn't even know she was talking to me since she didn't look at me and there were 4 other workers around me. Then I notice 3 racks covered in sheets with little signs saying Halloween Boutique Sat.25th. I'm frustrated that they are going to display the front window but don't look at it! If you don't want people to look at it then don't set it up while the public is shopping.

Ah that sucks. I agree with you they should not be setting it up if they don't want people to buy let alone look at it. At GoodWill is there halloween stuff new or is it all donated? At Savers thrift store they get a ton of new halloween product and they also put out donated stuff.
halloween is a super cool holiday.

That's a level of ridiculous nonsense that would drive me mad. I'm lucky in that my local thrift shop is run by a nice woman to benefit the mental health alliance and with her money talks.

Couldn't agree more about the pricing in Goodwill. Yesterday I went to look at one of the Goodwill stores. First thing I noticed was a couple of Gargoyles that were sold at Dollar Tree in the past. Goodwill had them priced at $1.99 each!

Next there was a plastic rib cage/chest, the type that has a pump that makes "blood" flow around the ribs. There was no liquid inside so I assume it wouldn't work as it was meant, however I have used these before, painting them and using them as rib cages for a couple of my props, therefore I was interested in it. No price on the item so asked an assistant how much they wanted for it. Nearly fell through the floor when she said "$4.99"

I told her that it obviously wasn't in working condition and she said "well you can have it for $2.99, but I can't go any lower".

Obviously this was donated and I was flummoxed at her response. Needless to say it was put back on the shelf.

There was a couple of other items I would have been interested in but decided that Goodwill (at least this one) was not the place to shop this year.

Oh for goodness sake, that's like some kind of retail practice - having a special date for the start of a sale - getting a bit fancy for a charity shop, aren't they?

You'd think with the economy being what it is, the most important thing would be just to sell the merchandise asap!

When I ask if they have Halloween stuff at Salvation Army, when I was there in the middle of June, they said rudly to me "Yes, we do, but Only on October 1st that we put the stuff out".
Okay, then! I'll come back on October 1st!

I never go there anymore, it's always overpriced.
