Hi all. Do any of you have a haunt contest in your town? If so I need some help. You see I live out in the southwest and Halloween isnt as big a holiday as it was for me growing up in Virginia. More and more over the past few years we have been getting Halloween superstores but not much in the way of media or community encouragement.
Anways the town I live in does a X-Mass house decorating contest that is headed up by the local newspaper. But nothing for Halloween. What I am looking for is information on other towns and cities that do have such a contest for Halloween. Information that I can put together in a proposal in hopes of getting one started.
So please any info that you all out there can gather together for me woul be greatky appreciated. Thanks Steve

The only contest I see around these parts is a few random Costume contest put on by local retailers or malls. I guess you need to search other sites for a possible contest. See this link here for an idea.

The city of Henderson in Nevada used to have a contest run through the park and rec dept.
You would sign up for it like it was a class. Then the judges would come around and vote.
The women who ran the show had a child and couldn't handle the kid and Halloween ,I guess.
They have never offered it since. It was a blast seeing what others came up with and I ended up with a nice article in the paper and a prize. The TV crew didn't hurt either when they showed up one Halloween night either.....Wyatt Furr

I wish we had a contest in my area. They do have a "Christmas" contest. I think they had a decorating contest a few years back in Indy held by the local TV station. Certain neighborhoods up there have contests. The trouble with contests is finding someone to sponsor and judge them. Since we all spend so much time on the internet, maybe we could spread the Halloween cheer through blogs and personal webpages. One year my website was mentioned in the Cincinnati newspaper. People do a search on the net and find us. We can reach out to the general public and maybe get them interested and see how cool their own decorations could be.

What a great idea. We should all contact our towns about starting this.

Nothing like that here. Let us know if you get one set up or anything I'd be interested in hearing how it goes.

my town doesn't even allow he kids to have a costume party at school. they say it is offensive. Some here have also asked to do away with it all together. the kids have a "harvest dance" at school. no costumes. Lots of New England towns do this now. Sad Very Sad. And do even think about doing anything for christmas....you'll be thrown in the clink.

I would like to get a home/business decorating contest started in my town and I have an "in" with local decision makers. Anyone have any suggestions for a prize? I want to do some sort of revolving "trophy" that would move from winner to winner every year, but with something other than a trophy. I thought about an engraved tombstone but am looking for something more creative. Ideas?

Most small towns that have a halloween parade have competition in the parard. If your town does not have a halloween parade, it probably wont do a halloween competition.
