We've covered this topic on this Forum in the past, but we have a great number of new members who may want to chip in here.
WHY do you go all-out for Hallowe'en?
My reasons are simple. I see Hallowe'en as a chance to give a large number of kids a life-long memory. When you're in a Haunted House, with the lighting and the music and the decor, your senses are heightened. You're imagination runs wild. And a really good scare under those conditions will stay with you forever. Almost every adult you ask will have a particular fond childhood memory of Hallowe'en and my goal is to give the kids that come to my place that precious memory.
What motivates you?

You hit the nail (in a coffin, of course) on the head, Wolfman.
Trying to create memories. Trying to keep alive the feelings I had as a child, for my children and grandchildren. For all the children that come to my door on Halloween.
Halloween feels so powerful, ancient and alive. Warm and merry. I want to do my part in keeping the fires lit.

I'm with you. It is all about making the kids smile and have a happy, joyful night.

Since we get very few ToT's here, folks who see it are ones who know us...coworkers, friends, family, neighbors, etc. Certainly Halloween was a big deal to me as a kid, and I still love it. I was big on the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland as a youngster, didn't get into outright scarier stuff till later.
I love the season and like horror elements year round. I'd live with the decorations and sound effects, lighting, scares, etc up year round but girlfriend and family, less so...so Halloween it is. I love creating that environment and the atmosphere and detail...just standing in the backyard and soaking it up makes me happy as the thunder crashes, ghouls moan, and jack o'lanterns flicker.

While I would love to sound altruistic and self-sacrificing.... It is as much for ME as it is for them. Probably more so
Its darn fun. I normally just do the front walk and a bit of the yard, but it is growing by leaps and bounds (don't tell my fiance!). This year I am having my first big party on my own and couldn't be having more fun planning it. (especially since I discovered THIS site and all you fine folks). I long for the day I can talk him into emptying out the garage for a walk-thru!!!!

Halloween is the day God gave me the greatest gift in the world, my son! I do the decorating for him, so every birthday he can remember how hard his dad worked inorder to provide him the best Bday ever every year!

My motivation is those strange spooky dreams and cold sweat awakened nights that drive me to look in my garage or check the entire house! It all for a good scare!

Its also an addiction in which I need a fix every now and then! You guys know like when you are very limited on time, yet still find an excuse NEEDING to buy something unimportant so that you may check for Halloween items... Lol!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

I'd have to say kids (and adults) asking us if we're going to do the haunted house each year is pretty motivating.
But the main motivation is it's something my husband and I enjoy doing together. It's a great hobby. We work on projects every month year round. Nothing big or fancy, but still fun to do together.

I totally agree! I love the creative process of thinking up and then making a prop with my own hands, seeing it all come together when no one else on the street puts anything out. I also love to see the kids dress up.
Funny thing is - in the past I haven't even been home to see it on H'ween - I've always taken my daughter to Mom & Dad's 'hood to TOT with my niece. This years looks to be different - her friends are probably going to win out over cousin.
