Is it me, or does it seem like the pumpkins are out WAY earlier this year ... all of the farm stands around here have a TON, and the grocery stores and Wal-Mart have big displays as well. Not that I wouldn't love to put some out now, but I know they won't last long with it still being so warm ... and what about when we get closer to Halloween? Will there still be any good ones left?

There are a lot of them around already. The crop last year was bad, however this year it's predicted to be a very good crop so I don't think you'll have any problems getting nice ones close to Halloween.

They would be so rotted here in Arizona by Halloween if I bought one now! But that means pie pumpkins should be out too! MMmmmm...pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, pumpkin roasted in the oven with fennel... (licks lips)

I was talking to my husband during his lunch break today and he says "there goes a truck full of pumpkins." I thought it was a little early myself ,but not a bad thing. I need to get some now to practice carving them. I love to carve pumpkins the only problem is I'm really really bad at it.

I haven't seen any around here yet, but expect to in the next week or ten days. I always buy them as soon as they appear in stores. As far as them not lasting till Halloween, they're already cut so you might as well buy them now. They'll last just as long in your home as they will in the grocery store. Just keep them in a cool place and wait till a few days before Halloween to carve.

last year we bought our pumpkins the 3rd week of september and they easily lasted through halloween.... kept in a cool dark garage without access to bugs or rodents they last a very long time. I had a white pumpkin that last 4 months before it got soft.
How many days do I have left?
