Not complaints about the cost of Fog Juice or the weather. I mean complaints about the quality of your set-up, be it a display or a walk thru.
I just posted on another thread where people are suffering from anguish because we're down to 53 days, or whatever. It occured to me that possibly they're afraid that people will criticize their efforts as shabby, cheesey or whatever. It also occurred to me that we have NEVER, in all these years, had a complaint regarding the set up or the show. Too much noise, coming from the neighbors, yeah, and the cops have complained that the fog was wafting down the street creating a potential traffic hazard. And one lady gave us a dry cleaning bill because her son came home with a red food colring stain on his brand new Gore-Tex ski jacket. (WE paid it) But no complaints that the show "wasn't up to par" or the set up "looked fake" or even that it was too scarey, my worst concern.
Be truthful, now, has ANYONE ever received a negative comment regarding the display being disappointing?

You have got to be kidding!!!!!Hold on, man. We don't go anywhere with "scary," "spooky," "haunted," or "forbidden" in the title. ~Shaggy from Scooby-Doo

Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

The only complaint was from the 8 or 9 year old girl who told me she was disappointed that only 4 of my 20 skellies sing to the music. I guess she was expecting Disney-level entertainment on my lawn. LOL
Of course, I completely ignore the "lame" comments from the tweens who are trying to act cool for their fellow tweens.

The only single complaint we got was from a mom who was walking back through our haunt with her little girl in hand. The child wa maybe 5 or 6 and my middle son was standing in the garden dressed like a scarecrow with a scary pumpkin mask/burlap clothes/etc..
He was standing on a crate which added another foot or so to his already 6' 2" frame and there was a green flood light on him. He stood perfectly still for some groups and others he jumped down in front of them and scared the crap out of them. He had been warned not to scare little kids but I guess he couldn't resist and when this little girl and her mom walked by he jumped down off the crate. Well the kid started crying and mom was MAD. I went over and apologized and my son took off his mask to show her it wasn't real. The mom said something along the lines of "that wasn't nice at all/you shouldn't be doing that to young children. I agreed with her and reprimanded my son in their presence. Of course we loaded the kid up with candy and told her what a great costume she had..etc.. She left smiling and mom thanked us for the efforts in consoling her. I high fived my son after they left! LOL!!
But..in terms of the haunt itself, no complaints and people are usually very appreciative of the work we put into it.

I think I could just roll some pumpkins out on the lawn and people would be appreciative. I don't believe anyone else in town decorates beyond a pumpkin or two. Obviously, that just wouldn't do for me, but everyone seems to enjoy the effort put forth and looks forward to seeing it again each year.

We only had one complaint when a lady stopped at our house a week before Halloween and told us we should tone it down because when she takes her kids to school the little girl would cry as they drove by the "skeleton house".....Okay my haunt is not gory its classic skeleton, witches spiders etc.
I was nice to the lady and told her there are lots of other streets she can take her kids to school on to avoid upsetting her child. I then mentioned that she should not worry about my monsters in the yard but be more afraid of real threats of our community such as the criminal element. I told her Halloween is meant for kids to have fun with not for parents to shield them from it. In the end I went to their car told the little girl it was make believe and gave her an early trick or treat. I was hoping to see her Halloween but that never happened.
