Actually it wouldn't be difficult to add those ideas to your haunt if you have that much land.
The bridge would take some work.
If you have some friends that want to participate you could have one at a tree with an image carved in it of a cloaked female with a nail in the heart, and have her (or him) asking passers-by if she could borrow something from them. Make sure to warn the guests that if they were the one who carved the image and pounded the nail, they musn't for any reason lend the witch anything. So then you could have the folklore told of the way to kill a witch.
Also if one of your friends wants to dress up as the 'town cryer', that would be easy to use near the bonefire.
See if you can find a clip of Polanski's Macbeth to see the 'three wierd sisters'. It's been released on DVD, but you might be able to find something on youtube.
That is a classic image of witchs for me.

Can't wait to see some pics of your haunt.
    Jim

here is the constrution of a bridge you might be interested in

Get three or four pallets. Line up two of them end to end and fasten together with nails or screws. Use boards from extra pallets to fill in gaps so you can walk on bridge but not too well..it is supposed to look rickety. Add 6 board, 2 in the front, 2 halfway in middle and 2 at the end of the board. Stand them up and hammer in. They should be about waist high. Attach a rope to the boards going down each side. Find a cool place to use it in your yard. I think either a fogger or glow sticks under it would be cool

rmwitch, those pillars and the entire cemetery haven is wonderful. Great job! The injustice to those killed in Salem during the witch hysteria is horrible. When I taught my unit on this in literature, the kids were shocked to see how easily someone was accused and condemned. I used that awareness to let them realize that rumors and reputations are often ruined in much the same unfair way.

John Proctor was, and poor old George Jacobs Sr., and John Williard and George Burroughs. All these men were accused, found guilty and hung.

Giles Corey had a different reason for execution, specifically that he chose to die.
When he himself was accused, he refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. He also refused to name anyone who might have a statement of defense on his character, as it could bring them under suspicion.
    He would not cooperate.
Well, Puritans didn't have the Right to Remain Silent, so to encourage Giles to speak, they laid a board on him in an open field, now one of the cemeteries in Salem, and they started piling on stones. The technique was called pressing, and to this day we say we "press" for information, or ask a "pressing" question.

Giles had quite a lot of weight on his ribcage and his belly when he was asked to speak one final time. Local lore says that Giles final words were... "More weight."

Legend says the ghost of Giles Corey has visited horrible misfortune on every sheriff in Salem, from that day right down to the present.

If your lady is a relation of Giles, she carries the blood of a decent and heroic man in her veins.

(EDIT & ADDENDUM) The anniversary of Giles Coreys death is September 19, 1692. I say lift a glass in his name.
Ooo .. I had never even heard of the guy until she told me about him a couple years ago when we were watching some Witch thing on the History Channel. I didn't know all that though .. I have to show her this post when she gets in.

She did tell me last night that he was not a 'witch' but was killed during the witch hunt with the stone. Apparently he was wealthy or something like that and it brewed a lot of resentment in the community.

Her brother, who has been on the wrong side of the law more than the right, will probably be interested in hearing that one of his forebears haunts the local sheriff.

My grandfather actually emigarated to the US from Czechoslovakia (modern Day Slovakia) and grew up in under the Carpathian Mountains. The Mountain range is thick with the legends of Dracula and the Wolf Man-- maybe me and my girl are made for each other, LOL!

Thanks for the reply.. I will have to show this to her. You Halloween Gals and Ghouls know your stuff!!
