I have an idea for how to separate my yard haunt and I need a little bit of help.

This year, I'm introducing a new framing device of a movie theater. The main part of the haunt is a movie theater I'm building up in the yard. There's a snack bar, ticket booth, employees, movie posters, and a big screening room with a simulated movie playing.

What I'm looking for are kid friendly Halloween TV specials and films that I can play off of on the "safe" path. I'm already thinking of the Garfield Halloween special and Casper the Friendly Ghost, but I'm drawing a blank otherwise.

I know I don't want to do the Charlie Brown/Great Pumpkin stuff or Nightmare Before Christmas as they're both a little too popular in the yards around here.

So, what is there? I'm open to animated or live action specials/films, old and new.

Well, you have the Halloweentown movies from Disney, also their animated Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Theres also the Gossebumps series. Lots to draw from with these.

Hocus Pocus! Or any of the DC/Fox Family movies, like The Scream Team, Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire, When Good Ghould Go Bad, etc.

Hocus Pocus. How could I forget?

Oh, right. That's an Easter film for my family. The VHS came out a couple weeks before Easter and we watched it while dying eggs.

Ernest Scared Stupid and Curse of the Were-Rabbit work. I haven't seen any of the Halloweentown specials, so I'll have to look into it.

I love Coraline, but the close-to-Halloween stuff would cross the line for the target audience here. And by cross the line, I mean I don't have time to do the giant mecha-spider Other Mother justice.

The Exorcist...a bit too on the nose for little kids, no?

EDIT: Spooky Sarah, I'm going to have to look those up.

Disney put out a House of Mouse DVD (House of Mouse Villains or something like that) that has some good clips of old spooky Disney cartoons.

Anything Scooby Doo would work for me, they're spooky. There was also a Muppet Show video a few years back that had Vincent Price and Alice Cooper(!!) that was pretty cool.

Oh, and I'd also recommend the Scary Godmother DVDs. Very cute and I think they capture the spirit of Halloween decently.

    A couple weirder choices too.

    Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein

There were a few episodes of Amazing Stories that would be perfect if you could get a hold of them (Mummy Daddy and Go to the Head of the Class.) They might be a little too intense for really wee ones. Or even episodes of the old Eerie Indiana TV show - maybe they'd be too dated.

    Monster House for sure.

Alright, I'm gonna make a list of every staple movie I watch. I honestly prefer the kid's movies to the horror films.

    ~Hocus Pocus
    ~Casper
    ~Halloweentown
    ~When Good Ghouls Go Bad
    ~The Scream Team
    ~Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire
    ~Under Wraps
    ~Don't Look Under the Bed
~It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
    ~The Nightmare Before Christmas
    ~Kiki's Delivery Service
    ~Tower of Terror
    ~The Little Vampire
    ~Corpse Bride
    ~Mad Monster Party?

There may be others that I'm spacing on. Not all deal/happen on Halloween persay, but I love em all!
