I'm vacationing in California all next week and I was just wondering if anyone could recommend anything Halloween related that is a must-do.
We are staying in La Habra but will probably spend the majority of our time in Los Angeles so just let me know if anyone can recommend anything around there!
Thanks!

I don't know about around LA, but the Winchester Mystery House is open daily for tours and is rumored to be haunted. It was built by the widow of the creator of the Winchester Rifle, and they say that all the Indians killed by his rifles still haunt it. It would be a bit of a drive for you though unless you are heading up towards San Francisco.
...But if you did go that way, you could also spend some time at the Santa Cruz boardwalk, which you will recognize as the same boardwalk from the movie "The Lost Boys"

The Winchester House is a long way from L.A. though.

I don't live too far from the Winchester Mystery House and if you are coming up to the SF bay area, the Mystery House is in San Jose. I always enjoy a trip there.
For the L.A. area (and I've only visited down there a few times), here's what would be on my personal list of things to see/visit:
1) Universal Studios Hollywood - right now they have the Revenge of the Mummy ride, House of Horrors, and Special Effects Stage which I think would be fun and interesting.
2) I've ordered props from these guys and would definitely make a trip to BJ Winslow's DAPPER CADAVER store in Sun Valley near Burbank and the Bob Hope Airport. And do check out their blog. Lots of great stuff there too. Here's a link to BJ Winslow's website you might also find interesting.
3) I could spend hours in Hollywood Toys and Costumes shop just walking around and looking at things.
4) Haven't been here but if I had the time would probably drop in for a look: Halloween Adventure stores (a number in the L.A. area). If you go, make sure you take along some coupons from their website (see coupons link).
5) You'll be too early for the Knott's Scary Farm Halloween haunt--might have been nice if you have younger kids with you. They don't open until late Sept. Someone on the forum here recently got a job there. Unfortunately the Queen Mary Shipwreck won't be open yet either. Same for the Magic Mountain Fright Fest.
Have fun. Plenty to do down there.

yes! if you're in the LA area, there is a Halloween Club year round store off Highway 5 in Sante Fe Springs.
I stop there every time we visit Disneyland.

We were out in LA around this time last year and went to a few neat stores.
Halloween Town in Burbank was pretty awesome. Large costume area. A little room set up like the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. Really nice window display. And a cupcake shop across the street.
Necromance in Hollywood on Melrose had really interesting things. Small set of two stores next to each other, lots of gothic-y macabre things.13 is my lucky number

If you make it down into the Corona Del Mar area (south Orange County), you might like to check out Roger's Gardens. I've heard that they have a very impressive Halloween display, haven't made it there yet. One of these years! Here's a link: http://www.rogersgardens.com/SpringOpen2010.asp

San Diego has the Whaley House in Old Town. It is certified as one of the most haunted places in the country. The trolley company used to have a Haunted tour of San Diego and it was terrific. The Villa Montezuma is also haunted ... the ghost has wicked sense of humor. Great food in Old Town ... El Agave has wonderful mole.
