Hey guys im kinda new here so if this point has been addressed in the past I apologize. Why is it that most haunted attractions require you to be 18? If you are 16 like myself and have been acting in haunted houses for 5 years, why is it that still with a parent approval and proper permits will they still not let you work there. Last year I volunteered at a pro haunt. It was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was an outside monster and a slider. It was a profit haunt but they didn't pay their actors so I was aloud to work there as a volunteer. But now they arent running this year and there is a very limited choice of haunted attractions in my area (Orange County, CA). All the haunted attractions within a 45 mile radius require you to be 18 with no exceptions, I am looking for 2 answers in relation to this post 1. What is your opinion on the age limitations and 2. If you are a haunt owner would you allow a person in my position to work in your haunt. After I worked in that pro haunt I feel I can't go back to working in small home haunts because of the joy I had performing in front of hundreds of people at once.

    Thanks!

Hirng underage employees open a big ol can of worms for employers. Increased liability insurance, work permits, restricted work schedules. I'm afraid in this economy its just too easy for employers to find 18yrs+ that will work for minimum wage. I'm sure if you continue to volunteer you will be first on their list of actors when you tun 18.
    Undead and loving it!

I think WC hit the nail on the head with legal crap. If I had a full scale haunt I would hire whoever was the most enthusiastic and genuinely enjoyed Halloween. I've been to too many haunts (professional ones) where the actors usually teens, some adults aren't even trying to scare people... I would hire you! Definately keep volunteering!! It will definately help you to have your foot in the door in the future.

You can always come to San Diego and work in my humble 4,200 sq ft back yard haunt. I usually get teen volunteers from the local high school JROTC and Field Hockey team. I gurantee pizza for the cast, and lots of scared tot's.
Successfully scaring little kids since 1990.
