I was thinking about how special this holiday is for me... Halloween holds such mystery with the spookiness that naturally floods the air. Autumn surrounds us with its brilliant colors and the eager urge to set up the scariest Halloween displays totally pulls us in at full force! You think of costumes, creepy props, HALLOWEEN CANDY!!!, scary movies, and of course the exciting feeling of the unknown adventures that await us during the night of Halloween. These things are what make the holiday great for us all... But always there is something that makes this time of the year special to us on a personal level.

So my fellow Halloween friends, open up and discuss what it is that pulled you in.

For me it was that childhood feel of the holiday that never quite went away. Halloween is the time of the year that makes me feel like a little kid again. I loved trick or treating and having the ability to find the scariest house on the block! I loved picking out the scariest costume... I was the only girl I knew who was obsessed with blood and gore! I think that thing that made Halloween much more special, however, was finding other people who were just as into the spirit and just as excited to go to yearly Halloween haunted houses and set up crazy parties with me. The best memories are those of prepping up Halloween parties!

    So share!

I agree - it's that childhood feeling that never went away. I would spend an entire year thinking about my costume and could not wait for the first cool air of fall and the smell of burning leaves (back when you could still do that! ). I loved anything creepy and dark - while the other little girls were obsessed with The Brady Bunch I was loving Dark Shadows! Halloween was made for me... or was I made for Halloween? Either way, it has been a life-long love and I still get absolutely giddy at the site of the first big orange pumpkin of the year!

Cateeto, you literally just made my eyes well with tears. In a good way of course! I love exactly how you put it. I feel the same. As a kid I was always interested in Halloween, the supernatural, anything mysterious and exciting. I'm so happy that I have found people that enjoy Halloween so much, and know that it's ok to be a kid again

Me too! I've been searching all over for people that love this holiday as much as me! A lot of people find out about Halloween obsessions and think of the people that hold them as "dark" individuals, but really Halloween just represents a type of creativity in us... An imagination that takes us to whole other levels! Halloween is a time to let people disguise themselves for fun OR to allow people to truly be who they want to be. It's such an amazing time of the year, really...

I'm glad I found this forum and all you fellow Halloween crazies!

Side note: Anyone else craving apples? That's what starts up this awesome Autumn feel. I need some honey crisp apples ASAP please!!!

I was born in the womb of the great pumpkin and on Halloween night in a very sincere pumpkin patch I was born. I absolutely love the Autumn season and Halloween. It is a time of the year that is just filled with magic and beauty, and the all out fun of Halloween and spooky scary things. I love designing my costume every year and planning my annual party. I love carving pumpkins and watching scary movies. I love bon fires and haunted hay rides. I go in every Haunted house I can find real and commercial. I go to the Halloween conventions. I just love it all. I love to decorate and build props. I truly am a kid that never grew up and I'm proud of that fact.
EVERY DAY TO ME IS HALLOWEEN!

Ditto on all of the above. Halloween is the single most creative holiday. Granted there are specific associations but nothing iron clad. It's completely open to anyone's interpretation aside from some folks ingorance that it's about evil.

    This!

The fact that Halloween kindles our inner children...couldn't agree more! Whenever Autumn rolls around my spirits feels very...light. I get giddy and am overwhelmed with intense feelings of comfort, joy and wonder at this great mysterious, wonderfully spooky season. Today the high is 58 degrees F. and it has been drizzling. Low clouds obscure the tops of the piney mountains and the air is crisp...pumpkin lattes have appeared. When I awoke this morning it was grey and slightly breezy, little golden leaves swirling in the street.

    Absolute heaven.

    I love this thread!

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said. For me, it's the feeling that anything can happen round Halloween, the feeling that the impossible becomes possible.

Ditto what was said about apples. This weekend I made my first batch of spiced cider. That's always one of the first signs of autumn in my house
