Boy, I never appreciated those wonderful October NC Halloween nights! My last two Halloweens in Washington State have been a war against the wind and rain. Last year was especially hard on my props.
The wind is howling as I type and it's still August!
I don't have the enthusiasm for outside decorating this year. I'm thinking about eliminating yard decorations and concentrating on my garage. I just don't think this will have the same impact.
How can I concentrate my haunt effectively? Also how can I let TOT know that the house will be decorated Halloween night without my yard stuff?
TIA![]()

Try some Lighted objects? Maybe a huge totem pole with a pumpkin on top? A sign could also do the trick
I wouldn't give up on the yard just yet, just make your props more efficent! Last year, the Wind was gusting up TO 70! I had to take in a few things, but I re-inforced alot of them with Jumbo Tent Stakes, and some twine, and it lasted the night! Just pray for good weather, and if it doesn't come, improvise!

I totally agree! I spent so much time setting up my cemetary and then to see it all blow down every few days was very tiring. I also wrapped the front of my house with scene setters to look like rock walls and it kept ripping down in the wind. I never slept well on nights it was windy, just thinking of everything outside. This year I am not setting up anything until the last week of Oct.

My graveyard was a ngihtmare last year. I gave up on large props and just tried to keep the fencing and gravestones up. We used huge stakes and pvp and rebar, but the wind was so bad that it woudl shred the foam right off the prop! Every night I would be up chasing pieces of props in my nightgown!
I actually took it all down the week of Halloween and waited to the big night. The wind was terrible that day, so many things never made it out again.
I think I might use my light o rama for lighting effects on the house this year. Then save everything else for the garage. The thought of constructing everything inside, then just opening the doors is so appealing. I have a three car garage so I have some good space.
I just hate the thought of my house looking ordinary in October.

I've had the same problem down here in florida the last few years. I tried tent stakes hammered into the ground and they were easily uprooted in the wind. I think I had about three on one prop and it still blew down in the wind. So sometimes things need readjusted every few hours. So I always hope for less wind.

Pumpkinprincess, you sound exactly like me. LOL Got tired of running around the neighborhood in my PJ's looking for pieces of tombstones. We even both have pirate themes.
