Saw this today and since I normally have to hunt for them I just threw it up on the belt at the store. $10 and 10 minutes later, I feel like I have been had. It is basically a modge podge of the last 3 issues into one. I do not think it had much if anything new in it at all. Guess I should've have notices the best of at the very top.
Anywho, if anyone else out there enjoys this magazine be aware that your are paying a lot for basically things you've already seen before.
Info from MSLiving Twitter:Our Collectors' Edition Halloween Handbook hits newsstands Aug 31! Anyone want to guess what Martha's cover costume will be? our collector's edition Halloween Handbook will be a bookazine rather than a regular special issue. it's magazine-sized, with a sturdier cover than a typical magazine, and more pages. definitely a collectible.
It says Aug 31 but somehow I bought it yesterday, dunno what's up with that.
I have a tweet into MSL asking about the Oct. issue as to whether it will be a Halloween themed issue with new ideas. As soon as I hear back confirming one way or the other I will post.

Thanks for the heads up. I would have done exactly the same thing you did - throw it on the belt. I already feel "had" by last years issue. I think the last great one was, hmm, 4 years ago now.

Well, to be fair, it does say "the best of" right on the cover. Sort of like buying a "greatest hits" album!

Oh I know, I never said it didn't say best of in smaller print at the top. However the cover was MS in a new costume getup and it very easily mislead me. I take responsibility for it. I should've opened and scanned it before I bought it. I will be more cautious next time!

I always use to look forward to MS's halloween editions but probably since she was incarcerated, it's been hard not to notice the vast amount of recycled projects that have been published along with a small amount of new material. I don't know if she lost the halloween spirit, the money to produce the pieces isn't there anymore, or what but it's been pretty sad. I've learned to scan through her magazines because of that before buying. I didn't always buy the older magazines so for me sometimes it's worth picking up a "recycled" layout because it's still new to me, but I do understand feeling taken otherwise.
Quite honestly another company that recycles a lot of material into new publications is Williams-Sonoma. I wish they'd tell you upfront exactly what is new material and what is reprinted. I hate wasting money more than anything.

I think Martha's more interested in selling her stuff at grandin road than giving us new ideas for stuff to make ourselves. Gosh, I made those Owl and Crow silhouettes around 6 years ago if not longer.

I always heard that the Martha Stewart Halloween MAgazine is only a new issue every other year and the year inbetween is pretty much a best of. So last year I believe was a new one so this year would be the best of? I think thats how it is at least thats how its been for the last few years. Sorry it wasnt what you thought! We can only hope next year will make up for it.
Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!
